I've had this argument elsewhere on here in the past, but certain fans act like sub-humans when it comes to professional sportsmen, in particular footballers. Whilst I agree paying customers have the right to boo a poor performance (though I think it achieves nothing except to exacerbate the situation), where else in society would it be considered acceptable for someone to call another a c*nt etc repeatedly and the other person just accept it?

Not arguing that these people are neanderthals and that I wish they would shut up. Just making the point that, in order for teams to be successful financially they need to engage the "fans."

Trust me, I hate listening to the uninformed ramblings as much as anybody.
