Stevie Lynex on the wing said:Hughsie played most of the game in the centre as he doesn't feel comfortable on the wing plus his ankle problem has flaired up again.
Full marks webbo for spotting my typo errorwebmaster said:I assume you mean it flared up, although we could do with a bit more flair in the team :icon_bigg
The problem much of the game was that all four midfielders looked like they wanted to play in central midfield, so it was all very narrow and there was never a wide option available when we had possession, so we ended up hoofing it.
Stevie Lynex on the wing said:Yes agree about the four midfielders that was my point about Hughsie not being comfortable on the wing.
:icon_lol:webmaster said:We could do with someone like Steve Lynex on the wing at the moment. And I'm not talking about you

Did not like the defending for the Hull goals though :icon_conf

PFKAKTF FOX said:When will people realise Williams is not selected in the team for his battling qualities and bone crunching tackling, what he is there for his calmness on the ball and ability to maintain possesion, he sees and makes passes that most other players in this league wouldnt even think about. The problem is that yesterday we played it too long and direct and that is when Gareth looks a passenger.
The easiest thing is to pick up on a player and slag him off, but have a look at some of the 5 / 10 yard passes he makes that retains possession and opens up space for other players, all the things Kisnorbo couldnt do when he was in midfield, and coincidently why he got slated, he is an intelligent player with good vision, and in a team playing decent passing football would be an excellent asset.
Dunc said:Williams was awful, i mean really awful. He didn't keep the ball particularly well when he did get it, when he lost it he ambled about in midfield, not putting any pressure on their players.
We didn't win many 2nd phase balls off parking or elliott and that is down to Joey having to do two mens work in the middle of the park. First half Joey wasn't particularly good but 2nd he was awesome in terms of passing, work rate and was our driving force.
Williams IMO shouldn't be allowed to pull on a City shirt til he takes his finger out his arse and puts some effort in. You say we went direct and missed him out, but I think if you looked at the attempts Williams made to free himself and offer an option to 2 centre halves who can actually pass it pretty well you will be left looking in vain.
He has ability, no doubt, and he passed it ok on occassions but for a centre midfield player he is neither effective enough in attack, defense or in terms of work rate to justify his position in the team.
Hughes at least puts the graft in, and although he's not very strong, he puts players under pressure while a lazy git next to him jogs about watching the game pass him by.
Chrysalis said:PFKAKTF FOX I agree but its hard work getting others to. Every player has his weaknesses and williams is winning the ball back but has a great strength in creating chances in a "passing" game.
lako42 said:a very contrasting game. i was bored out of my skull and VERY dissapointed with the leicester fans efforts in the first half. but as you say the second 45 mins were entertaining. And yes what a foooooooooooooooking goal, never seen anything like it in real life. brilliant. P.S. Gareth Williams is a useless wanker who should **** off back to forest
Dunc said:But the point is that he never does it does he! If he produced one defence splitting pass every now and again then you'd have some degree of sympathy but ambling round the centre circle neither helping defence or attack he's not doing anything.
He has talent, he is a good passer but just as its not his nature to work and pressure defenders its apparent its not in his nature to demand the ball and use his skills to take a game.
Anyone can look good at 2-0 or 3-0 but unlike a Joey, Weso and even Hughes isn't shy in getting involved Williams doesn't either have the confidence or the ability to do it when its needed most.
PFKAKTF FOX said:I agree with you there Dunc, the problem is Williams does not fit into our style of play, he is a continental style midfielder, keeps possession well is fairly neat and tidy but isnt the blood and thunder type of midfielder that we need. I dont blame Williams for that, that is his style and the way he plays, the cold hard facts are that Adams should never have signed him and Levein should have moved him on in the summer.
He is an enigma, a very talented footballer, a player who is gifted but doesnt have the overall game to be the complete central midfielder, and yet as it appears because of his obvious talent, managers believe that they could be the one to turn Williams' potential into consistent performances. It is clear that he is a luxury player and one that we can ill afford to carry.
My gripe is the abuse he gets from people, who even now still expect him to launch into tackles and chase and harass, he is not that type of player and never will be.
