Can you recommend a good African music compilation Jeff? I really enjoyed the concert from Eden for the Make Poverty History day and keep meaning to track down some of the artists that played that day, if you have any pointers to collections or essential artists in that general 'genre' it would be very much appreciated.

For a compilation I'd recommend this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Africa-Very...ef=dp_tracks_all_2/026-0483391-5682008#disc_2
And if you like that get volume two which has slightly less commercial stuff on it.

My favourite African artists include:
Femi Kuti, The Four Brothers, The Bhundu boys (before they signed to a major label - The Shed sessions is a good album), Thomas Mapfumo. Most of that is relatively old though, I'm not really up to date with the latest stuff.

For chill out stuff you can't get better than Toumani Diabaté

There's a lot of good hip hop coming out of Senegal, my favourite being Daara J - I found about them by watching the Eden thing.

Queen - Seven Seas Of Rhye
Toploader - Dancing In The Moonlight
Lasgo - Something
Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum
Nirvana - Polly
Herman's Hermits - I'm Into Something Good
Happy Hardcore - 4 o'clock In The Morning
The Beautiful South - Little Blue
Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger
Daniel Bedingfield - Never Gonna Leave Your Side

The Stranglers - Golden Brown
Queen - The Miracle
Freddie Mercury - The Great Pretender
Razorlight - America
Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
Nirvana - Breed

Beck – Sexx Laws
Half Man Half Biscuit – Albert Hammond Bootleg
The Jesus and Mary Chain – Psycho Candy
The Velvet Underground – I'm Waiting for the Man
Bhundu Boys – Hupenyu Hwangu
Nina Nastasia – Our Day Trip
Kirsty MacColl – Free World
Billy Bragg – Walk Away Renee
Kathryn Williams – What Am I Doing Here?
The Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
Sly & Robbie – Triplet

No, it's a song called psycho candy that's not on the album of the same name!

That's the only album of there's I own, and I don't know any of their other songs.

And i must say, what an album...

Scrub the Girls World off your wish list for santa and get the rest for Christmas - they've all been recently remastered and reissued, absolutely essential purchases.
