Well, 69 Love Songs is by far and away their most famous/acclaimed album, but it's a bit daunting to start off with being over 3 hours long, it helps going into that one if you are already somewhat of a fan. As amazing as 69LS is my personal favourite is Distant Plastic Trees/The Wayward Bus though. Again, it's a bit unconventional.

Get Lost or The Charm of the Highway Strip is perhaps the best place to start, but do so knowing they have better albums. I just think they're the most accessible.
