Terry Gilliam's production by the English National Opera of Berlioz's "Benvenuto Cellini", beamed into a Dublin cinema last night, live from the London Coliseum. Staggeringly good! Recommended, if you can get to London for one of the final three performances (and get a ticket), and you will never have seen a soprano like Corinne Winters before. Wow! Shows you really don't need bulk to belt them out.
Some aspects of the plot are a bit puzzling though. I mean what would the Pope want with a statue of the Greek god, Perseus?
