What Are You Listening To Now?

Xanadu was the first Rush song I heard, I fell in love with it instantly.

Geddy Lee's voice is not to everyone's taste...

Yep, quality throughout that album. School Days is a great track, but there isn't much that the Reverend did that I didn't like. Are you on tonight?

Yes I was on last Sunday Speedy, and on again tonight.

On at the moment is Ash playing Northern Soul and Motown.
The Redroad link is playing up at the moment and it's taking 2 or 3 reloads to get it on that link I've posted before.

If I need it off the internet at the moment I use TuneIn app that's easy to install.

I wouldn't mind having half an hour with David G's Mystery Train but today I'm in a Bob Mould mood.

Played a few of his LP's today and now hitting some Husker Du. Strange, the feeling in some of his vocals - despite the raucous nature of most of their early stuff - quite a passionate delivery.

Ah, . yes, I've had a few beers too.
Thank you.

Well kids,
Bit of a change tonight. A few beers downed, nothing different there, but tonights music is from popular beat combo 'America'

Yes, good old folk stuff from the early '70's. Just playing their first 2 LPs. Comfortable. Stress free. Easy. Nice. Not that bad really.

I'll have to dig out some stuff from The Business or someone simmilar to end the night properly.

"Knock it back...have another one"

Hi Kids.
Tonight (Good Friday) has me doing some almost Riiiot-grrrl type stuff. From America. (No NO NO Please. Not the band 'America'. Now that would be weird/interesting).

Slant 6. Remember them? Mid 1990s. Wonderful 1st LP, less wonderful 2nd LP. then split. Never went anywhere where popkids would hear.

Ok. here's the first album. Not really riiiiot-girrrrl, just high energy girls. Their single 'What Kind Of Monster' is stunning.

OK, maybe not 'wonderful' but still good and energetic.

Ok, Maybe not even that good on re-listen. Ah well.
Time for a beer and listen to some Riiiot-Girrrl stuff by America.

Riot Grrl didn't really exist did it?

I always saw it as an invention of West Coast music writers. Punk bands with women in them were still Punk bands to me. Never saw the need for the sub-genre thing.

I also thought it was a plot to give some sort of kudos to Bikini Kill, who were ****ing dreadful. **** California.

Although it did afford me the amusement of watching 90s student girls getting drunk in the Charlotte & throwing up while watching the Lunachicks. Clearly that's what they thought it was about. I hope they grew out of it.

Ah The Charlotte. Happy days and all that. My brother’s band even played there. Shame it’s gone, because that was a great venue, back in the day.

I used to like Huggy Bear a bit but couldn't really get my head around some of the stuff they were protesting about.

Much prefer Scottish trio Pink Kross. My kind of girls, My kind of music.

Sadly one of many up & down the country to have died the death in the last decade or so.Never could have imagined it back when. I wonder if I ever saw your brother's band. What were they called?

They weren’t big, they were just a local band, so you wouldn’t know them. Although one of them did go on to become the lead singer for The Holloways, so one of them had some success at least.

I’m still a big fan of Rock City. It’s a great venue and still has that old school feel to it. I don’t go as much as I used to, but we still get there on occasions.

Radio X, 100 greatest rock tracks, now at 97 (counting back to 1) - excellent stuff.

Best of British.

On Tues I went to see my fave band of the moment, the band with the worst name of pretty much all time....
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. Why can't they call themselves The Smiths or something?

Proper happy jangle guitars, proper happy songs (almost). THREE guitarists - last decent band I saw with 3 was Diesel Park West. Anyway, they are Australian and sound a cross between Wedding Present and Go-Betweens but more like The Wolfhounds. Who?
