Direct debit confirmation from Private Eye and bugger all else. Was expecting loads after the strike - bet it's all stacked up in a pile somewhere being ignored.

A dead bird.

Might have been the cat but i can't be 100% sure. Im guessing someone sent me a living bird but it passed away whilst waiting for the lazy ****ers to deliver it.

Not much next week that’s for sure.

After lengthy negotiation we are very disappointed that the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has announced more strike action starting on Monday 15th and ending on Friday 19th October. This action will take place at different Royal Mail sites across the country at different times. We are currently assessing the impact that this will have on services, and will communicate this as soon as possible.

We can confirm that the latest round of strike action by members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) ended in the early hours of Wednesday 10th October. Royal Mail regrets the impact of the strike action and apologises to its customers for the disruption this has caused.

Whilst we are encouraged that increased numbers of operational staff are attending work and that managerial and support staff continue to keep mail flowing, the situation remains very serious and our ability to provide services remains extremely limited. We are very sorry that we have had to withdraw a number of service promises and guarantees, but we will reinstate these as soon as we are able to honour them.

Special Delivery items are being delivered and some mail is flowing through the network, but we have a significant build-up of mail that will take time to clear when the strikes have finished.

We would like to assure our customers that we are working hard to get mail through the system and delivered. We will do our best to return to normal as quickly as possible, and will deal with mail in the order in which we receive it. However customers should expect significant delays during and after the strike period.

During the strikes Royal Mail’s priorities are to:

Keep mail flowing, by keeping many sorting machines and vehicles operating, and processing as much mail as possible through our system.
Protect vulnerable members of society, who depend on Post Office payments of pensions and social security.
Manage the needs of our large customers with bulk mailings – helping them post around disruption as best they can.
Ensure that all customers may continue to post mail through the Post Office network.
Prioritise Special Delivery services although all guarantees will be suspended.

What does it mean for our customers?

This action will severely limit our ability to provide any services for the coming period. Customers should expect severe disruption to all postal services during the strikes and for a significant period afterwards.

Special Delivery will continue to be a priority throughout the period of disruption. We have well developed contingency plans, and will do all we can to deliver Special Delivery items on the due day. However, money-back guarantees have been suspended for items posted on 4th October onwards. These will be reinstated as soon as we are sure we can fulfill the service promise.
Door to Door - we will not be able to maintain a Door to Door service, Royal Mail has applied Force Majeure for all Door to Door contracts scheduled for delivery in the weeks commencing Monday 8th; Monday 15th and Monday 22nd October. Please see the section below for more details.
Redirection, Keepsafe and Diversion - our advertised standard for setting up these services is affected by industrial action, and so customers should expect delays.
Redelivery has been suspended, and will be reinstated as soon as we are sure we can fulfill the service promise. Customers collecting items should be aware that enquiry office opening times may vary from normal, and some may be closed on strike days.
Access mail - we will not give access mail special priority during strikes and period of recovery. We will deal with mail in the order we receive it, regardless of whether it has come directly from our customers, or from a supplier of Downstream Access.

How can large Business Customers work with us to reduce the disruption to your mail?

Think of our network as a sequence of linked operations, starting with your mail arriving in the Mail Centre.

Please do not post on strike days.
We will deal with mail in the order we receive it, regardless of whether it has come via Royal Mail, directly from our customers, or from one of our competitors.
If you need to post on a strike day, you can take your mail directly to your local Mail Centre.
We regret that Royal Mail will not be able to collect mail during the strike period.
Our customer service helpline – 08457 950 950 is operating, but will be very busy, so please be patient.
Our website, www.royalmail.com/update will contain the latest update on disruption.

How can Small Business customers and Consumers work with us to reduce the disruption to your mail?

Please do not post on strike days.
Our customer service helpline – 08457 740 740 is operating, but will be very busy, so please be patient.

Message for Door to Door customers

We regret that this industrial action is having a significant impact on Royal Mail’s Door to Door service during this period and for sometime afterwards whilst our operation concentrates fully on service recovery.
As a result of this disruption we have applied Force Majeure for contracts scheduled for delivery in the weeks commencing Monday 8th, Monday 15th and Monday 22nd October as we are not able to provide our normal delivery service.
We understand that customers may wish to make alternative arrangements during this period.
Any customers with a Door to Door booking for delivery on weeks commencing Monday 15th October and Monday 22nd October who wish to cancel can do so without incurring any cancellation charges.
Please contact our Sales & Customer Service Centre on 08457 950 950 (selecting the Door to Door option) for further information.

Customers who receive benefit cheques from the DWP?

The DWP are currently deciding how to dispatch next week's Jobcentre Plus, The Pension Service, Disability and Carers Service, Child Support Agency and Child Benefit customers’ cheques. We will update this web page as soon as we know these details.

Apparently, the problem is that Royal Mail want them to work a fixed 6am to 2.15pm shift and the posties all want to be able to skip off home once they've done their round (as they've always done).

Lazy feckers. Sack the lot of 'em.

Speaking to someone yesterday - this was my understanding of the situation.

Postie have a fixed time to which they should work as you mentioned. They go out to their assigned round which in itself is complicated because the RM are slowly started to stop transporting posties, people having to go in their cars to their round or via public transport. Every postie's round differs in time, some spend all day and other spend 3 hours.

The postie which do it in 3 hrs, go back to the office and then quickly home and if they are ordered to do another round they are expected to be payed again. But now if they do another round they will be paid no extra salary.

The Posties want to be payed per round in practice and the RM want them to be payed per shift. The probelms is if they is no extra work, the vast majority of posties will have to spend 3 hours at work doing next to nothing.

The other probelm is the Posties' old ideals of overtime and the RM want to update that into a much more measurable and correct way which will possibly see the Posties profit in the pocket but not on the watch.

Some of the current fight is about the fact that the Royal Mail wants to shut the pension scheme due to the current deficit and replace it with one that provides much worse benefits. However the funding gap arose because the govt told the Post Office to take a 13 year contributions holiday a few years back.

Essentially true, though to say the government told them to is probably not exactly true.

Some experts would say that the latest deficit was deliberately inflated

Me too. If it is the case then they're all a bunch of morons. if you're being paid to work a shift, work it! My boss wouldn't let me leave several hours early if i'd finieshed what i was doing. He'd find me something else to do!

Corrected yourself in the same sentence :icon_lol:

It would appear they have had the easy life for years and now that someone wants to make them do a full days work for a full days pay they are kicking off. I dont have any respect for the posties that have gone on unofficial strikes this week.
