There are also no barriers when you're stood at a gig. It would be a hell of a lot safer to be stood in a properly designed standing area at a football stadium than it would to be at some gigs.

:038:
MK bowl, Leeds festival both on significant slopes and can get very crushed.

It's not all sporting events though is it?

It's football.

And it's not all football matches. Just the top two divisions.

They'll say it's because you only get a dangerous surge in the crowd at football matches.
But that doesn't explain why it only applies to the top two divisions. And it doesn't explain why small, shallow terraced areas that are safe have had to go as well as the big old kop type terraces.

I've stood at most Carlisle home matches this season. If they made the ground all seater I'd probably go to non-league games instead. Now I've got used to standing at football again I don't want to go back to sitting.

I agree with all of that; just didn't want to use too much common sense, not in one day!

standing at a gig, you are not standing on a stepped slope, there is a whole world of difference.
I doubt you get surges stood on a flat surface.

You obviously haven't been to too may gigs. I've been to a few where I've actually been worried that the crowd is going to topple.

Why would clubs in the top tier ever change the seating plans? I imagine the standing ticket prices would be lower than seating tickets and it doesn't make a difference to the more important supporters funding the league through Sky subscriptions.

Why do you think they'd charge less? If there was an option to stand or sit, with the same ticket price, I'd choose to stand every time. In fact, I'd pay a premium.

They would also be able to safely admit more supporters per square metre in a standing area than a seated area and would have less maintenance costs.

So, to answer your question, the clubs should push for change because of the financial incentive.

I'd pay the same to stand, many clubs already admit standing supporters for £5 or so less than seating - I can only assume me and you are in the minority in being happy to pay the same, otherwise it is daft that all clubs I am aware of charging lower.

I'm not sure of the attendances of clubs at the moment but even though a few more would go if it was standing, I doubt it would be enough to cover the losses from those paying £25 quid for a ticket now paying £20. Do many teams currently sell out?
