Just shows how corrupt Blatter is. Some journalist trying to catch him out asked him to name 3 qatar players. Blatter replied " Hendrix, Clapton and Page"

- Qatar is a little under 11,500 square kilometres in size. By way of comparison, Yorkshire is 11,900 square kilometres.

- Average temperatures in June and July range between a rather warm 27 degrees to a positively furnace-like 46. We'll believe this talk of air-conditioned stadia when we see it.

- The headquarters of Al Jazeera, the news agency that features a suspiciously high number of straight-to-camera home movies, is in Doha.

- The death penalty exists in Qatar, including for apostasy, the desertion of one's religious faith. Although (according to no less a source than Wikipedia), there are no know executions for the crime. Which is a comfort.

- Women can vote in Qatar, a law that those trailblazers passed way, way, way back in 1999.

- Sodomy remains a crime in Qatar, punishable by up to five years in prison.

- A UNHCR report on human trafficking in 2008 stated that Qatar is a 'destination for men and women trafficked for the purposes of involuntary servitude and, to a lesser extent, commercial sexual exploitation', and that the state 'does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking and is not making significant efforts to do so'.

- Amnesty International reported in 2009 that an Egyptian national was sentenced to 40 lashes for drinking alcohol.

Was that their bid?

Doesn't Scolari manage a team out there and Rivaldo play for him?:102:

On 6 June 2009, he was spotted in attendance (with FC Bunyodkor player Rivaldo) at Uzbekistan's World Cup qualifier against Japan, and on 8 June 2009, Scolari revealed that he had signed an 18 month contract with the Uzbekistani champions Bunyodkor. The contract made Scolari the highest paid football manager in the world, earning 13€ million a year.

He left by mutual consent on 29 May 2010 after failing to guide Bunyodkor past the last 16 in the Asian Champions League although he cited concern regarding his son's education as the key reason.

Oh right I knew it was one of those non-countries.

Mussolini's Italy hosted the 1934 WC, but at least the trains ran on time.

<QI Klaxxon/>

Not true. That's just a piece of Fascist propaganda that's still being repeated after all these years.
The train service was one of the worst in Europe during Mussolini's reign.

Did you know you can run trains on herbs? After all, Mussolini made the trains run on thyme.

I thank you.

If you're lost, you can look and you will find me....
