I voted Labour by default also, though i wish theyd bin the New Labour stick and go back to the traditional Labour party. I just vote them cause theyre the only party who can realistically challenge the Tories.

After the recent demise of the country as a whole why would you want them to challenge the Tories, I would rather see another party given a crack at the whip, New Labour have had they're time and ****ed it up good and proper.

It's time for a change of direction.

............The only people that i dont have much respect for are those that can see absolutely no wrong in the party they support. They all have faults.

Bang on there BB

I voted Lib Dem local, Conservative Euro (because i agree with their view on the need for a referendum). I hope Labour get ****ed at the polls and bring a general election around sooner rather then later.

Yes, and in both cases the respective leaderships have deceived their voters.Imo most goverments deliver little of what they promise, and from that standpoint i can agree with your opinion.
On the other hand i think that having the right to vote in the first place is still the ultimate thing.

I agree with you 100%, I just don't really buy the rhetoric about WWII being a fight for individual freedom. That war was fought for many reasons, I don't think that was one of them.

I would normally make every effort to use my vote, but I'm not particularly bothered about voting in European elections. It's a bit like voting for somebody to represent your class in the school debating society. The European parliament is a powerless talkingshop setup to fool people into thinking they're part of a democracy.

The EU is hardly powerless, it's powers are overhyped by right wing bigots, but to dismiss it as a talkingshop is a bit naive.

I could see why people are dissolutioned with it all. Even with the current generation, they have witnessed the two main parties make a lousy job of it by the end of the tenure. This might leave the current younger generation to think that the Libs are a suitable middle party between the two giants. This imo though could not be further from the truth.
I dont think the options are very good at the mo, but voter apathy is the extreme parties utopia.

I didn't say the EU is powerless, I said the European parliament is. Big difference.

I would never vote for the Tories. Why would anybody want a bunch of power craving millionaires running the country.

Cameron says they are the party of change.........my arse.

Yeah, because Tony Blair, Harriet Harman, Alistair Darling, Shaun Woodward and Geoffrey Robinson are all working class paupers.

I have voted Tory and if anyone doesn't like that tough shit.

"Who ever you vote for, the government always get in"

There were 13 to choose from where I voted just now. 13!
So many to lose their deposit. There were several of the No to Europe type and they will split their votes. There was everything from BNP to Socialist Marxist stuff.

No total loony parties (except the usual ones, you can guess which...) unfortunately.

Anyhow. I didn't vote for the party that tends to win in my constituency.

From the NOTW.............

Reading Political Hack's piece about Caroline Spelman's misuse of taxpayers money, I fell to wondering why she felt she had to abuse her position. Because she's not poor. According to the News of the World, she's worth £1.5million. So why the desire to filch money from the public purse?

The NOTW article is interesting in other ways too. They point out that 19 of 29 of the Conservative shadow cabinet are millionaires - as they put it, if they get elected "Britain could be on the way to its wealthiest government since the mid-19th century—when the aristocracy relinquished power", 150 years ago. Wow - that's going way back to before the franchise was widened to male householders with a certain amount of savings.

For those interested, here's the list:

Lord Strathclyde, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords - £10 Million

Phillip Hammond, shadow chief secretary to the Treasury - £9 million

George Osborne, shadow chancellor - £4.3 million

Jeremy Hunt, Shadow Secretary for Culture, Media & Sport - £4.1 million

David Cameron, Conservative party leader - £3.2 Million

Dominic Grieve, shadow Home Secretary - £3.1 Million

Francis Maude, Shadow Chancellor of Duchy of Lancaster - £3 Million

William Hague, Shadow Foreign Secretary - £2.2 MIllion

Alan Duncan, Shadow Secretary for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform - £2.1 Million

Andrew Mitchell, Shadow Secretary for International Development - £2 Million

David Willetts - £1.9 million
Theresa May - £1.7 million
Oliver Letwin - £1.5 million
Caroline Spelman - £1.5 million
Owen Paterson - £1.5 million
Cheryl Gillan - £1.4 million
Liam Fox - £1 million
Grant Shapps - £1 million
Michael Gove - £1 million

Not exactly "people like us" or "people in touch with ordinary folk", are they? No wonder one of the few concrete policies the Conservatives have is to cut inheritance tax.

Look out for other policies that will specifically help millionaires and ignore everyone else. The last time we had such a concentration of interests in the early 19th century, we got such horrors as the New Poor Act, which massively expanded brutal workhouses, and which the Times criticised at the time as a "disgrace [to] the statute-book."

<Irrelevant bollox>

I never said that there weren't millionaires in the Tory party . I was pointing out that there are loads of millionaires in the Labour party too.

If you seriously think that the Tories will bring back workhouses then you are a fooking loon.

You vote for who you like. It was you that responded to my comment about not voting for the Tories, because they are power crazed millionaires.

I am merely backing up the fact the majority are millionaires.

And most of the feckers have other jobs too............

In our local election I had the choice of Conservative, BNP and Labour. I would never vote for BNP or Cons so I had to vote for Labour by default.

You could have chosen to spoil your ballot paper. My choice in the locals was the three main parties and nothing else at all.

In the European election I voted for the Green party.

I went against my usual voting pattern in this one too.
