I think what he said has just been misinterpreted and looked at it in the wrong way by people who are negative about anything RK says or does (which admittedly, most of the time is warranted), and his poorness in giving interviews.
RK said we need to look for a minimum of 16 points from the remaining games, so that we hit the 50 point mark which should guarantee safety. Avoiding relegation is the immediate priority, and most managers threatened with relegation usually say similar things. It doesn't mean that he only wants 16 points, just that that is the immediate target, which it is... avoiding relegation is all we've got to play for this season now realistically, and anything we do past that is a "bonus".
16 points from 16 points should be an easily acheivable target, and he's probably said that to try and take pressure off the players slightly.
We should be looking for much more than just a point a game over the rest of the season, but getting to 50 is the first aim.
Having just looked though... we've only got 17 points in our last 16 games... so maybe it's not so easy for us to get that!
