City's Youth Academy are gearing up for an 'opportunity of a lifetime' with the squad flying out to the United States later this month (March 14-25).

After winning the FA Premier Academy League title last season, the starlets have been invited to take part in the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXIX alongside the likes of Liverpool, Sao Paulo, Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Foxes have been placed in Super Group A.
There are three groups with the winners and best runner-up from the three mini-leagues then meeting in the semi-finals.

City will take on CF Monterrey on Sunday, March 16, Andromeda a day later (March 17) before coming up against Sao Paulo at the Pizza Park Stadium on Wednesday, March 19.

The stadium has a capacity of 21,000.
"It will be a fantastic experience for the lads and an opportunity of a lifetime," said Academy Manager Jon Rudkin.

"I have been fortunate enough to attend the tournament before with the likes of Richard Stearman and Levi Porter when they were playing for the Under-14s.

"It's a well-organised tournament featuring some top clubs from around the world and it will prove to be a big test for us but one that we are looking forward to."

The squad for the trip to Dallas has yet to be finalised but Rudkin admits that there will be a youthful feel to the traveling party.

He added: "We are in the process of formulating our squad for the tournament but it is more than likely going to have a young look to it.

"It is an Under-19s tournament but several of our schoolboys will have travelled and they will look to get as much out of it as possible.

"The trip will provide the lads with some further experience as they continue to progress at the football club."

anyone going :icon_bigg :icon_wink

I had it penciled in - but due to a chronic lack of organizational skills only in my seive-like mind - for May! :icon_redf

Bollocks! Next week might be pushing it. Maybe if they qualify from the Super Group to some sort of Super Final... I can get to Dallas in a couple of hours and there are plenty of flights...

I'm quite impressed that they've a team coming all the way from Andromeda

Well they've lost the first game:

A Billy McKay strike was not enough to prevent Leicester City's Youth Academy from slipping to a last-gasp 2-1 defeat against CF Monterrey in their opening Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXIX fixture.

The Foxes, who jetted out to the States on Friday, more than matched their Mexican opponents at Richland College Fields but were undone by a last minute effort despite McKay's (pictured) goal.

However, Academy Manager Jon Rudkin was delighted with the team's performance.

He said: "The lads did really well especially in the second half and were unlucky to lose.

"It was a good test for them against a technically sound Mexican side."

City are back in action tomorrow (Monday) when they take on local Dallas team Andromeda SC.

looks like we could be struggling to qualify as there a 3 groups with only the group winners going through and the 2nd placed team with the best record receiving a wild card to play the team that finishes top of our group.

would appear that all the games scheduled for today have been cancelled due to the bad weather

won the last match 3-1 but gone out of the tournament needed to win by 4 goals to go through

With the relative success of the youngsters there should be a dedicated site containing team photo(putting names to faces) and profiles

Well done lads.

Very unlucky not to go through, due to the other group having a team of wipping boys which boosted the goal diff of the Mexican team.
