We don't have to sell them, though
Would love to see Barca come in for Mahrez after the deadline and we turn it down......As if

Unless there's an offer that triggers a release clause in a contract.

Any sensible club would structure a release clause in such a way that a move after the closing of our window would be impossible.

In the future, yes. But there are probably lots of existing contracts where that wasn't considered, so it could be a problem for a few years.

Any sensible club would, bearing in mind that the windows of the various associations already differ, have been using such clauses for some time now. The decision to close the Premier League buying window three weeks earlier next season can not have come as a surprise to anybody and therefore there is no excuse for this more restrictive release clause to have been included in new contracts this summer.

The only clubs that would pay the kind of fees we're talking about are in France, Germany, Spain and Italy. They all close their windows at the same time, with the exception of Spain, which this year closed it a day later.

If a country elsewhere in the world is triggering a release clause, the fee has been set too low.

What needs to be done is find a way to encourage clubs to do their business earlier in the window, so we don't have the usual last minute panic.

Why did Spain close a day later? Probably so they could get more sleep and avoid the sun...lazy feckers

Were they in Messersmitts?

Seems to be a culture of constantly sending out press releases in Portugal. Pretty stark contrast to the wall of silence that we're usually confronted with.

Can't decide whether it's a nice way of keeping fans in the loop or whether it's the smooth workings of a PR machine. Seeing as their chairman seems to be a bit of a twat, probably the latter
