With the great players and great names that I am far too young to have ever seen grace a City shirt I feel unable to enter a team to this thread. I know we all span the generations on this forum but seeing one team with the names of David Nish, Keith Weller and Colin Appleton and then another team with the names of Ben Thatcher, Theo Zagarakis and Stan Collymore just doesn't seem right.

I notice a lot of you have opted for Gordon Banks in goal. My Dad always say's that Shilton was a much better keeper and he has never forgiven Banks for 'costing' us the Cup Final in 63 against United. He is also a massive fan of Jackie Sinclair. Do any of you more experienced posters have any thoughts on this?

I'm also too young, but it does seem a bit ridiculous that some people are saying any striker we've had recently is better than Lineker, for example.

So no Graham Cross ?
Steve Walsh ?
Larry May ?

And the list of strikers that have been better than Heskey must be about 30 or 40 long

ok homer give me 30 strikers better than heskey

walsh fair point though id have him upfront

This whole thread is totally subjective. You cannot really compare Emile Heskey and Tony Cottee. Yes they were both strikers but they were totally different kinds of strikers. It is impossible to say whether Cottee or Claridge would have done so well for us had they not been playing alingside Heskey to act as a foil for them. Similarly, had Emile been playing alongside Ian Hume and every flick on and chance he made for him was smashed in to row Z, he might not have looked such a good player.

We all think highly of Dickov for his first spell at the club and I see him in some peoples teams and on Homer's list. Was he a 'better' striker for us in that period than Brian Deane? Or, was it a case of them working well together and they were both as 'good' as each other?

Of course it is, that's like describing a swimming pool as 'watery'.

FIF started the thread with his all time favourite players, that he has seen, shambled together into a team.

It isn't about comparing individual players.

I always thought that Shilts was a better keeper than Banks, although I may have formed that opinion when he went to Stoke. As for Jackie Sinclair he was a slight Scots winger who dribbled pas players rather than flew pas them. Injured quite alot as I remember.

Homer you missed out Garland, Ferdinand and Collymore. I bet there is a lot more if we looked harder.
