Speculation And manager for next season?

I think the sensible thing to do is still to give Shakespeare the job, unless someone truly exceptional has some interest, which is very unlikely.

Give Shakespeare the summer to plug some gaps in the squad and then see how he gets on until Christmas. If he doesn't do well then sack and replace.

We've nothing to lose, really. This season was our one shot at truly transforming the club and unfortunately we blew it.

Well we've a season to lose.

I was on the fence before the Spurs game, but now I'm convinced we shouldn't give him the job. I've not seen a capitulation like that for a long long time (I'm not counting Porto away as we played our second team).

I think if we keep him on we will be a relegation scrap next season. He's not the man to take us forward to where we want to be.

Saying that though, I think he'll get it. And if he does I'll be supporting him all the way.

I'm hopeful that he's here until the end of the season as the next guy is seeing out a good season elsewhere before joining. Hopefully the players have had no say in the appointment.

Indeed, im sick of hearing about who the players want, spoilt ****ing brats.

Whatever happens in the close season is going to give us a good idea of where our club is going. When we were promoted the owners said Europe in 5 years. No one foresaw us winning the league in 2 (yes that happened) but if we stick to the idea of this 5 year plan then top 8 next season would be a good aim with top 6 in our sights for the year after.

HOWEVER I worry that if we are looking at top 8 we are buying in to all the media crap about how strong this league is. I don't think many teams have improved on last season and if we keep our top players I can't see why we shouldn't go for the top 4 next season.

Whether Shakespeare stays for me depends firstly on whether he can retain our current top players and secondly on whether he can recruit the additions we need. I am not so worried about tactically as for me the jury is still out on that (he's made some mistakes but also some really good calls).

I'm not completely convinced, despite interviews, that the players are all behind Shakespeare and would up sticks if he left (I know most of it is agent talk but there are a lot of rumours in the papers of players leaving anyway) but him going does add an element of uncertainty. And there is no doubt in my mind that if we get another manager Shakey will leave the club.

Any new manager would have to be picked carefully, not just selected by name, because we've seen this season that our players are limited and there is no way we can just put in a manager who will want to change our entire style (without significant transfer spending and squad overhaul).

If our aim is top 8 I would say keep Shakespeare and see how he does in the transfer market and the first months of next season (but no messing about like we did with Ranieri this season). If we want to aim higher immediately then select someone else but we also need to be prepared to spend big on the right person and the right transfers.

If Shakespeare does get the job then he needs to bring in at least 4 or 5 coaches, right now he is manager, assistant manager & first team coach, that is too high a work load for the most experienced of managers let alone a novice.

Also I would welcome a number of the players moving on (3 or 4 max, as long as Vardy isn't one of them) as it would force a move away from 442 and evolution of the squad and tactics

He has stowell as his no.2

Our whole gameplan, both attack and defence is based on Vardy. As long as he's here that is what we have to do. I would like us to be able to change plans as well as have a different base plan but that isn't going to happen.

Still if he plays next season like he did for the final part of this season I don't mind. If he plays next season like he did for the majority of the season we are ****ed.

I agree if Shakey gets the job he needs an experienced assistant and additional coaching support. I would like to see Wasyl added much in the same way Powell and Phillips were promoted. He is a fantastic professsional with a wealth of experience and he understands the club. Also imagine going back into the dressing room following a less than committed display to see Was sat there .......

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is considering his future. Would he consider us if approached? He seemed to have a lot of respect for us.

I think he'd want someone who are in the CL but he'd be a great get for us with our current philosophy. Vardy is the ideal player for him and he knows defenders.

I suspect he wouldn't even consider it for one minute. He's done a great job where he is and should be aiming a lot higher than us.

I agree. I've not seen this story yet, but I'd think that Inter Milan would be a natural place for him to go to.
