If we were generous we might think it was just a hiccup from using something like Dragon Dictation or similar.

Either way it was not proof-read, or if it was, it was done by someone just checking that all the words were spelt correctly, not that it made any sense!

Yes. Freelance work can bring in a lot of money if a) you're good and b) you can be arsed. The Mercury does what it's always done, which is to simply throw it under the eyes of an untrained 16-year-old with a D in GCSE English.
