I've got a suggestion for an option which I think a truthful board could suggest, albeit one that the fans wouldn't like. How about the board announcing that we are a small club who has been punching above its weight for about 15 years now and they intend to stabilise the club at its present level. Forget about the Premiership for the forseeable future and just concentrate on the survival of the club.

Come to think of it, that's exactly what they have been doing without having the guts to be honest about it. In my book, nothing wrong with the tactic - and probably better for the long-term future of the club.

I just don't think it's true to say that Leicester City is a "small club".

In terms of fan base; gates; history and stadium we are by no means a small club.

What we are seeing now is the long term fall out consequences of disastrous management in the Elsom/ Peter Taylor era leading ultimately bt way of relegation to Administration and only coming out of Administration on a wing and a prayer.

There are a number of clubs in the Premiership with a smaller fan base and poorer tradition than Leicester City.

It would only take reasonable investment and inspiring management to get things going again.

If I wanted that I could go down the road and support Northampton Town or Rushden.

Any supporter of any league club wants their team to be as successful as possible, in the case of LCFC that is a place in the top flight. It might not come quickly but that has to be the goal. If your ambition is purely to survive then you will almost certainly drift downwards, your ambition has to be to succeed.

There's plenty of examples that prove this theory wrong. Like Crewe.

And the Premiership is mostly shite. When Man U, Chelski, Arsenal and Liverpool feck off to some European superleague, then it might become more interesting again. Until then, the only reason to get up there is to have more money when we come back down to the Championship.

I'd love to see Dowie here.

I agree.

Having a manager with more experience - and probably more ambition - would be a step in the right direction. Overall RK has done a fairly reasonable job ...at present he is on one of his little successful runs, but that's not going to last and I think with him in charge we aren't going to go much further than where we are. Harsh but reality imo.

I suspect that a more formidable manager could get a bit more out of the current squad, but what we really need is some investment in the squad. In that event I can't see RK being the chance to show whether he can cut it at a higher level.

Dont worry, the new year fairy is going to deliver him to us, surrounded by light with a halo over his head, our saviour.
He might be pig ugly, but look what Harry has done for Portsmouth. MM has a thing about ugly managers. A few drinks tonight and I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.....:038: :038:

Hmmmmm. Last year everyone was hailing RK as the new messiah, leading us out of the relegation dogfight into mid table mediocrity. This season he has had his hands tied financially and has kept us exactly where we belong, mid table mediocrity. It doesn't matter how big a club we are, how loyal and faithful a fanbase we have, how much tradition we have (there are no extra points available for tradition/size/new stadium/ etc). A new manager, and it doesn't matter who it is, even if MON came back tomorrow, would still have the same squad of (average) players, the same inability to deal in the transfer market, and the same set of results on Saturday afternoons. This club is not a premier league club, we are mid table championship at best. Anyone who says we are too big, or too steeped in tradition and all that stuff should take a look at Forest, Blackpool, Bradford, look at the state Leeds are in, a club that was playing Champions League football a few years ago.

How the mighty fall

If we aren't careful, there but for the grace of God goes LCFC

:038: :038: Great post SJN-Fox at least there are some realists on here.

I think that comment was tongue in cheek wasnt it Melts?:icon_roll
Definitely not.
Taking this question literally, are you suggesting that Rob Kelly is the best manager in the world and nobody else could do any better with the current Leicester team?

My answer to your question is Yes, I do believe somebody else can come in and do a better job

No not at all but at this moment in time I don't know of any other available manager that could come in and turn things round as much as you and some others on here think can ie:get us in the play offs.

If the likes of Dowie was appointed and proves me wrong I will run and hide in shame from BG and your good self but IMO I think RK should be allowed to see us through this season and any changes should be made in the summer providing ofcourse an investor comes in to throw some dosh at whatever manager is chosen.

I look at Bolton and Portsmouth who are 4th and 5th in the PL and look at your statement. Are we truly smaller as a Club than Portsmouth or Bolton? :102: :102: I think not. We are 16th and that means that fifteen other clubs are doing better than us. Do all of them have better squads or more money. No.

We are where we are because of the way we have been managed at a Board level and at a Team level. There is no other reason. We have had many opportunities with the squad and with Managers and never grasped the nettle on any occasion(s). :icon_conf

Well said Steven, I could not put it better myself. :038: :038: :038:

:018: You're avin a laff BG, he is not an option for LCFC IMO I would say even Ian Holloway would be more suitable than Dowie.

It is going to happen SLonW, prepare yourself.
RK is soon to be history despite a couple of good recent results, a case of too little too late
