Can we afford to sack Levein?

We didn't have to sell him.

Sorry Joe, the Connolly deal was a decent bit of business, that sort of fee at this level for a player who had only really performed for 9 months was too good to turn down, plus as Durham says, he wanted out so what would we have gained from keeping an unhappy player, his form would have dipped and we could have ended up in a worse position.

The disappointment for me was the way we rushed into the Elvis deal and shelled out a fairly substantial fee for a player who at best was unproven and whom we still had on loan until January when we could have made a more informed decision, the honest question would be, based on Elvis's scoring record and performances would CL still sign him on a permanent basis now and would he have paid such a high price and the answer to both those questions IMO would be NO !

I keep hearing this but I really am not convinced. If a decent bit of business is risking our clubs championship status then I'd hate to see a brillient bit of business, especially as Levein seems to piss all the money up the wall anyway.

That deal was a complete mystery to me, it wasn't as if other clubs were sniffing round him or anything, well nothing was said to that effect at the time.

I'd give Elvis a generous 5/10 at the moment, perhaps he's at his best back on the wing and cutting back inside like when he first arrived?

I still think that even a moderately competent manager could keep this club in the division i.e. finish above Brighton, Crewe and Millwall (hopefully) with the existing squad.

Regretably I don't think that Levein is even moderately competent.

Millwall and now even Wednesday (with help of one of our players) are putting winning runs together. Also Brighton do tend to have a good run now and again. So who does that leave to be below us except Crewe?:102: :102:

Hull or Coventry hopefully. Isn't it depressing when you are begging Sheff Utd to beat Hull so that we have a better chance of survival?

I understand all that, but what I was trying to say was that Millwall, Crewe and Brighton all seem to have weaker squads and lower resources than ourselves.

I excluded Wednesday because i think they have a bit more about themselves than us.

However, this is a really ludicrous situation where we have a manager taking us into free fall and a board that isn't capable of doing anything about it.

unfortunately joe thats what its come down relying on other teams to do us favours we arent exactly helping ourselves out

A glance at the league table shows that if Millwall win their next game and we lose to Sheff W, then not only will we be in drop zone but in immediate danger of being cut off from safety. Even 3 straight wins and we will still only have temporary breathing space. Those two results against Millwall and Crewe look ever increasingly like being the catalyst of our season imo. It will take mid-table form just to scrape 50 points and quite frankly theres not enough guts in the side to do it. In the words of MK......we're fecked.

Going back to Trundle briefly...

Isn't he on some sort of Beckham type deal though were he gets a cut in the merchandise that carries his name? Big fish in a little pond, idolised, earning quite nicely. Would take quite a bit to prise him away from that and at the moment city just don't have it.:icon_sad:

85% of swansea merchandise bears his name (not just Shirts either) Its goin to take a massive wad of cash to get him here. Doubt it'd happen myself.

But we might end up losing just as much in ticket sales because of the ridiculous kick-off time.

Do you really think we don't need any more players?

Our top goalscorer this season is MdV (He's scored more than Hammond and Hume combined, and he can't get into the team any more!), our next best is a midfielder. Hume has scored the same number of goals for us this season as Connolly!
We desperately need someone who can put the ball in the net. I don't think our strikers will suddenly start scoring if we bring a new manager in, they've never been prolific scorers at their previous clubs and I don't think that's going to change.

So we may have the choice of getting a new manager, or getting a new striker.

I agree with the poster yes, mdv, hume and hammond can score more goals with the right training and motivation. A manager is far more infuental to a team then a striker. Even if we got some prolofig guy in who averaged 1 a game which would be really a shock, it doesnt stop the many other problem we currently have like not enough goals from the midfield and the defense leaking goals after we score.

To add as brauny has said we need a substantial pick up in form to avoid the drop, the likes of crewe and millwall will pick up form as they were expected to be down here and they know what its all about plus millwall have a change of manager, but we wasnt. Sheff wed have got 2 new strikers which one has already scored and are now on a mini run.

The answer to the striker question I would say it has to be someone who is a proven scorer at championship level or premiership level, someone like earnshaw but even if WBA were to change their minds he would never come here. What the board didnt think of any player now will look at lcfc and think, bad form, drop zone, same manager who got them in the mess, and will simply know he is joining a sinking ship. Not to mention craig doesnt seem to have the knack of basset and redknapp when it comes to reeling and dealing.

I now cant see us avoiding the drop pending a miracle.
