If FC picked Beckham purely to put him on near the end to make his 100th appearance, that would show that it is unlikely he will ever pick Beckham again. At least this way, it is quite clear that he will pick Beckham when he is back playing competitive (well, vaguely competitive in the MLS) games.

Thats what I've been saying, hes been the best english footballer of his generation, he deserves 100 caps just for carrying us for 5 odd years. I remember Arsenal held a 'Denis Bergkamp' day a few years back, something similar for Becks would be deserved.

The squad is decent enough. Ashton and Lennon are two players I would have had in but there you go.

Crouch up front because I think we need a big man. James in goal because hes the best keeper by a long way.

FC knows exactly what Beckham can do, but he's not played a game for months, so lack of match fitness is probably what's ruled him out. He asked Wenger about Beckham's fitness before selecting the squad, he wouldn't have done that if he'd ruled him out completely.

It didnt work because McLaren was hopelessly out of his depth with the so called superstars.

Even if he was fit FC wouldnt have played him. FC is out to prove that he makes the decisions and wont be influenced by the circus that surrounds Beckham. He has done it before and he'll do it again.

If the FA didn't give any of our world cup winning 1966 squad a testimonial or 100 caps for the sake of it why do it for current players, if Beckham takes football seriously again he may have a chance of 100 caps but going into semi-retirement in MLS isn't the way to get more caps.
