Hayles could do a job in comparison to some of the sh*te currently in the squad. I doubt it would be long term and I doubt he'd drop straight into the lineup, but he could help with depth..

That being said I wouldn't add him to the likes of Deep Freeze and Cort, but I would replace them with him any day. So try and get rid of those two and Hayles might not that bad.

I am just trying to wrestle with what sort of club would take Cort off our hands.

I'm equally strapped to think of a club that would be foolish enough to pay him the sort of wages he will be getting at Leicester.

The only justification for signing Hayles is if Holloway feels that we haven't got a prayer in getting goals from our present rag bag of strikers. Hayles is seriously at the extreme veteran stage - has been a very useful player but surely we are scrapping the barrel here. I think in the event of us signing him ,he will be revealed as being on his last legs and difficult to keep match fit. We've been here before methinks.

Horsfield? Cort?

Deano did a decent job in his advanced years, as did Ferdinand...but then they were a bit better than Hayles in the first place.

Precisely.

Brian Deane was useful England International and had scored goals with top clubs here and abroad. Sir Les was a serious class act at his best

Hayles has been a decent journeyman forward - very popular too in his Fulham days but I think he is even older than Horsefield (haven't got time to check ) & probably older than Deane when he signed for us.

However, if Holloway thinks that: Fryatt, Hume, Hammond, Cort, DJ and John plus Sappleton & the Academy product strikers are all so lacking in goal power - then bring Hayles on. But it would tell a tale of near desperation.

Hayles is well past it and hasn't been good for years. He was playing for Millwall last year when we played them - not overly impressive.

Reminds me of when we got Nathan Blake in - that didn't work either!!

The point is that players can learn from Hayles. Sappleton especially.

Well you never know - you might be right but theoretically they should be able to learn from the other aged experienced strikers.....I just think trying to bring in Hayles is a tad sad.

But you could be right.

I thought that originally. However the desperation for me would only come if he was given a contract. Happy to take him on loan as that is zero risk.

I agree - can't see Plymouth buying that tho'. After all they are battling for a play off position whereas we are etc etc etc.

I think we'd benefit more from trying to find a youngish striker whos scoring plenty somewhere lower down, league 1 perhaps. I don't really see the benefits Hayles would bring, he's no better than what we already have up front and is much older, and would no doubt want big wages.

To be honest though i think the problem is in midfield not up front, we create so few chances in a game that sometimes it's barely worth playing strikers at all. To that end Norris might be worth a try, haven't really seen enough of him to comment.

I think it's a misunderstanding. We are actually after Norris and Rita.

Totally agree (at the risk of falling prey to any number of sarcastic snipers out there). Midfield is the problem area IMO, a decent winger and an attacking midfielder would be my targets as manager. We could have Torres upfront and we still wouldn't be scoring goals at present. :023:
