Cooper Out

Well, regardless, he’s not leaving anytime soon I don’t reckon. I really want him to succeed, but it’s a bit shit in general and last time out we were sleepwalking.

Tops just had a baby (maybe twins?) and I think opened a new King Power mall in Thailand. We are bottom of his list at the moment, so it's in the hands of Jon Rudkin.

Football management is all smoke and mirrors.

Most managers are thick as pigshit.
Well, they are all ex footballers so that shouldn't be much of a surprise.

I worked in sports promotion for a bit & met a fair few players & ex players. Thick as mince almost all of them.

Interestingly, the ones who weren't were the ones who hadn't come up through an academy system & groomed for football since they were 8 or 9. The guys who had come through the pyramid on the back of having proper jobs. Dion Dublin for example is a sharp & articulate man with an above average IQ.

There's a noticable similarity between academy trained footballers & the public/independent school types that I encountered in other jobs. All believers in their own excellence, despite ample & increasing evidence to the contrary.

Ferguson basically built a reputation & a dynasty on having read the first chapter of a beginner's psychology textbook. I remember having many a good laugh at the constant press articles praising his "genius" for what amounted to a couple of basic principles. Kingdom of the blind & all that.
If my thick **** of a brother lived with a troop of baboons he'd be the smartest in the group. But not by much.
But sometimes not by much is all you need to be considered a worldbeater. Especially in an industry that's always desperately looking for one.

Poetry.

Both of the full backs have been pretty awful, but the right hand side weakness is due to the 'tactics' being deployed in Cooper's masterplan

Justin has been pants all season, but most of the blame lies with 'ze system', not the player - he's being asked to play right back, right wing back and right winger all in the same game. It's ****ing ludicrous
And then he plays Buonanotte as a central attacking player so he’s got nobody ahead of him.

Two things are true. The tactics are hanging Justin out to dry. Justin hasn’t defended well.

‘Entitlement’ - ‘something that you have a right to do or have’

You don’t think that a large portion of our fan base feel we have a right not to be in a relegation battle?

I am lazy though so I won’t argue with you on that one.
Literally no one at all on this forum or anybody I've spoken to or any of the folk I sit near think that we have a devine right to be in the PL. It's just not true at all. It's one of those easy phrases trotted out when anyone has the audacity to question somebody else.

If by entitled you mean that when there are obvious shortcomings that could be addressed fairly routinely, these are openly criticised then every single fan of every sports club everywhere is 'entitled'.

So much entitlement and delusions of grandeur on this forum.

I think a number of you have been in a coma for the past two years.
See.

I told you it was lazy word used by people who didn't understand it.

Case closed.

For this reason I hate being asked by friends at the moment about Cooper as I don’t want to sound like the typical “entitled” fan complaining when we are 15th after just being promoted.

So I have to be clear I’m pleasantly happy with having picked up some points. But then elaborate I’m concerned it’s not sustainable and refer to how we’ve got away with some pretty poor underlying stats and performances, which is why it doesn’t feel as if it’s going to end happily.

If we were 15th and looking more solid we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Precisely.

On that we’ll agree to disagree. Peace and love my friend.

The problem is that between 2016 and 2021 we were entitled to think we were a top half PL side. When Puel was farting about in the middle of the league, it actually wasn't good enough.

The reasoning being that we spent a lot of money on players and salaries. Remember that we made Rodgers the third highest paid manager in the PL at a basic salary of £8m per year. We were paying for decent PL football so we had every right to expect it.

It's not our fault that the club fecked it all up and, in PL terms, went bust. I think we've been exceptionally polite about the shit show that we've seen as managers have been paid fortunes for very little and we leak quality players, replacing them with dross.

We've carried on paying the same money and supporting the team in the same way that we were before we were any good, during that period, and since.

From the moment we lifted the FA Cup we've been in freefall as a club. Any supporters of any club witnessing what we've seen would have every right to be more than a bit pissed off that we've essentially collapsed as a progressive and exciting club.

All true, and all Top's fault. I do think he's had a bit of an easy ride due to the tragic circumstances by which he came to own the club, but it's patently clear that he's not got the ability his old man had

And why would he at his age?

I'm worried, I keep agreeing with you.

How old was Vichai when he started King Power?

That said, let's not be under any illusion. King Power is a monopoly for which they will be paying substantially. It's not based on ability of it's owner, it's based on corruption.

Billionaires don’t exist without corruption and exploitation of useful people. Those with the highest net worth are generally worthless to society.

We popped into a canalside pub alongside the main Welshpool to Newtown road earlier today. By the look of the barmaid's boat, she could have been Cooper's sister. We were lucky to have her but it did put me off my meal somewhat.
What an insightful analogy to our current situation (although, obviously some would vociferously deny the "lucky" part....not that they're "entitled" to have a better looking barmaid or anything, I guess it all depends where you drink?)
