I'm sure there's somebody here who will be able to provide a translation

BoJo to address the nation at 830pm tonight instead of the usual daily press conference.

I'd prepare for their to be a shutdown now more like Italy/Spain/France etc or at least a forced closure of retail/non essential shops.

Worryingly though, we have more deaths/cases than both Italy and Spain had before they brought in a 'shutdown'.

North Carolina just closed basically everything, including schools until May 15 minimum.

Meanwhile Trump says everything should be back to normal in 8 days.

It's gonna be interesting, my best mate lives in Greenville NC and she's not expecting to be out for a while

Probably needed because of people absolutely taking the piss.

Here in Buenos Aires if you leave the house for any other reason apart from meds or essential food they arrest or fine you

A vaccine could help even if it only provides short term immunity. If everyone is vaccinated the virus could die out completely in humans.
But of coures there would be the usual idiots who think vaccines are unsafe, and would refuse to have it.
Exactly. Plus if it's only 6 months immunity your somehow have to immunise the entire world within that period, which would be a logistical nightmare.

Then we have to go for a mandatory vaccinations and people will no doubt fight that. Do we currently have any other mandatory vaccines?

I have just listened to radio 4 an interview with a doctor who has just finished a shift at st Thomas's hospital in London. She said don't think this only affects the elderly and those with underlying health problems. They have an increasing number of young and fit 30 and 40 year olds who are in intensive care fighting for their lives. Please tell your loved ones to stay at home.

There is an increasing number of younger people but almost all of them will survive and have no apparent impact in future to their health.

One thing's for sure, Homer is 100% correct. The NHS will buckle under the pressure. More than our ability to fight the disease, the ability to have the beds and equipment is more worrying.

Govt "advice" is pointless. We don't need warnings. We need fines, threats and orders. That's needed. **** human rights and just go full out draconian. Either shut down and make it draconian NOW or don't at all, there's no in between.

How do you know who can afford to catch the virus?

Over a certain age and those who have underlying respiratory disease or diabetes.

Some of the things that put people at higher risk are things that people might not even know they've got. People can have heart problems, diabetes, hypertension etc for years without knowing it.

Absolutely fair enough. There are going to be problems with either approach, no approach will be risk-free, but it's about assessing those risks. We can't save everyone.

Testing should have been made a priority right from the start. Only a couple of weeks ago people were able to get off a plane from Italy and go home on the train, with no testing or self isolation.

Absolutely correct.

25,000 tests a day doesn't sound anywhere near enough. There are likely to be many more people than that already infected, and that number could increase exponentially. Self test kits that people can use at home should be available in around a month,

Specialists in the US reckon 100k per day is optimum in the US, so that 25k per day works out here.

We also need tests to see if people have already had it and recovered. There will be people who have been ill and got better, who think they've had it, so are now behaving as though they're immune. But most of those people won't have had it.
Agreed, we have to continue to be extremely careful

We need to start dealing with people like this in my opinion:

Hell yes. As I said before we are a country of 100s of different nationalities and cultures. How can we appeal to so many in-built mindsets by simply offering advice?

Stop ****ing around and make it like this. If we're in lockdown then we lockdown. I am not necessarily in favour of lockdown but i see the point of it.

Boris said today you can go out to exercise, for essential work, for food, for medicine. How about you only are allowed out for essential food and medicine?

Unless you work in supermarkets or medicine, lockdown means lockdown. I see the tube in London mainly closed down, but the ones left open are rammed again. What's the point?

Maybe we need a badge or ID system whereby we know who should and shouldn't be out.

Exercise inside, it's called push ups, sit ups, squats - download the Insanity workout. Bicep curl backpacks full of heavy items. It isn't that hard. I mean...EXERCISE!?!?

How do you even enforce the above. Between people exercising and going to the supermarket or pharmacy, you can spend hours not locked down.

Make it clear Boris. Otherwise no one will respect the rules. Demand, order and punish if not adhered to with monetary penalties.

Great podcast with an infectious disease specialist.

Underlying point: this is a coronavirus winter not a blizzard. It's dangerous and isn't necessarily an older person who gets terribly sick, younger people can also get awfully sick but obviously are considerably likely to survive.

Discussion about: transmission rate, infection numbers, outcomes, death predictions, closing schools etc...

Great watch as usual with Joe Rogan.

The Government have ****ed up the messaging on every single stage of this so far.

They are as stupid as the thousands of arseholes going to the beach.

True

It‘s been an absolute ****ing disaster

The whole ‘herd immunity’ horseshit actively encouraged the ****witted to go about their business as usual, thinking it‘s only going to affect the decrepit and those who were going to die anyway. ‘I can carry on as normal, it won’t affect me - lets all go to the beach’.

Complete twats

’We’re following the science’ they said , when experts were warning of the fatality risks of carrying on as normal back in January.

They've ****ed this up big time

But of course, they are by and large the same people who have spent 4 years telling us not to listen to experts, but trust our own instincts. Looks like they even convinced themselves
