Many people act as if double jabbed means you can't pass it on. The requirements at Wembley and other places do not help. You need have (or pretend to have) a negative test result or proof that you're double jabbed.....you're fine to go and infect any ****er you like if you've had your second jab.

But by personally choosing not to wear one, you could be endangering other people.

When I go to the supermarket and see the 70% of people not wearing masks, I assume they're a moron or a selfish ****.
Well that’s your opinion and you are of course, entitled to it.

How long do you suggest everyone wear a mask for?

What PROVEN benefits are there to wearing a mask?

If I take your point that ‘the young’ are the ones mainly not wearing masks then I believe they have sacrificed enough.

It is time for nature to take its course.

For as long as necessary.

What PROVEN benefits are there to wearing a mask?

The biggest benefit is that infected people are less likely to exhale the virus in droplets of water into enclosed spaces where other people can inhale it. That's a fact.

I didn't say anything about "the young". In my experience it's people of all ages. And I don't think wearing a mask in a supermarket for a few minutes is a "sacrifice".

This isn’t going away, at some point (and that appears to be now) herd immunity is required if we are to avoid all of the longer term economic, mental health and other effects of this virus on the country then we need to adapt.

we need to adapt.

We adapt by taking the right precautions. Like wearing masks in enclosed spaces. At least until there is a more effective vaccine, or more effective treatment.

People opposed it when wearing seatbelts became mandatory. People opposed it when wearing helmets on motorbikes became mandatory. People opposed the ban on smoking in public enclosed spaces.
They're far more of a "sacrifice" than wearing a face mask. But people got used to it.

We need to live with Covid like we live with flu now that the majority are vaccinated.

Perhaps we should just wear masks forever…

Masks are pointless. As soon as mask wearing became compulsory in the summer of last year, cases started to sky rocket because social distancing went out of the window. Our government should have stuck with their guns - they know they give no benefit but bowed to public pressure.

Neither group is made up of morons or c**ts, they just have different views and convictions. Hurling insults back and forth is the attitude that snowballs into hate crimes. It is unnecessary and harmful. I strongly agree with one of the above arguments and disagree with the other, but wish we they could be argued without the hostility.

Mm

Masks became mandatory in July.
The spike in cases started at the end of August and the data shows that a big factor in this was the eat out to help out scheme.

Well said Hector.

And eat out to help out started at the beginning of August. There were 10 days between compulsory mask wearing, and the start of eat out to help out.

Correct.

It was people eating out, in close proximity, not wearing masks, that was a big cause of the spike.

This is from the link I posted:

"Areas with a higher rate of uptake (both from restaurants and consumers) experienced a sharp increase in the emergence of new COVID-19 infection clusters a week after the scheme began."

If you are in the unfortunate position of being a person who can die from this due to healthy factors it is your responsibility to make adjustments to your life to safeguard yourself. It is not the responsibility of others to do this for you.

Society in general has made huge sacrifices for the good of the minority for 18 months with little respite. My daughter has spent 1/3 of her life missing school and socialising for the benefit of the few. She is among probably 50 million people in England who have done the same.

To continue to drag this out and insist on mask wearying, which there is zero proof of any benefit bar the placebo effect, is, frankly stupid.

To cite helmet wearing and seatbelts as parallels to this is frankly absurd.

sorry Camberwell, IMO your wrong, seat belts and crash helmets are are a perfect example, both dramatically reduce the chance of death in an accident, exactly the same as being double jabbed should you be unfortunate enough to catch COVID.

I caught COVID either, going to or at the Wolves match, it’s horrendous! I’m still not 100% now, I was double jabbed with no underlying health issues.

Around 8.5M people in the U.K. have had COVID, how is Social distancing pandering to the minority, without it the situation would be far worse.
Mask wearing has undoubtedly helped to stop the spread

If Covid was going to disappear soon, I might be more supportive of mask wearing.

But it’s not going anywhere, we have to learn to live with it, so do we wear masks forever? When do we stop using them?

It’s not a nice thing to catch even when double jabbed. Neither is flu. Why were we not wearing masks pre covid?

Why is wearing a mask seen as such a hardship anyway? I know some have a genuine excuse for not wanting to wear one....but for most it just sounds like a preference but a one that's portrayed as a massive effort.
