Thought the match was awful with so much hoof ball and little in way of creativity - admittedly that shite pitch may have been partly resposible .
for that.

But the biggest plus is we have some beleif in this team now and we have the makings of a genuinely solid team/squad. If we can grind out a few more results i would fully expect the quality of the play to improve as well.

I think Ollie missed a trick playing Hume out wide. Lets keep the balance and stick with genuine midfielders in midfield - that Bori looked very tidy and impressed me more in 15mins than Laczco had in most of the game.

Laccie gives Mattock more defensive cover than Bori does to his defender, as does Hume. It's bloody good to have options of a decent kind of the bench.

Just seen our next 2 games are against blackpool away and Plymouth at home

Ollie said he'd like to go on a run - well theres never been a better time with fixtures like these two.

Out of interest, and not wishin to put the joanna's on it, what is the longest run a City keeper has gone without conceding a goal?:icon_wink

7 games - Herbert Bown in the 1919/20 season.

TBF to everyone though, Alnwick has not yet had a save to make, so he could be piss poor :icon_roll

Not true - that corner would have gone straight in last night. He also made a save from a back-pass at Norwich.

yeah the game was pretty rubbish and as for the pitch....to say palace were the form team they didnt look that good imo we matched them and both defences were on top and played well..dont care who or how the ball goes in the net as long as we pick up points from it it makes a change to benefit from a late goal/winner...no doubt we will come crashing back down to eath on saturday at blackpool :)

I thought it was a fascinating game - superb performances from both defences, and two evenly matched midfields nullifying anything creative - all played on a bog heap of a pitch

I feckin' loved it - proper football

With the exception of Hume, who was utterly impotent, I thought everyone had a top notch game against the best organised team we have seen this year.

We won it with the bench - the pace and creativity of both Bori and Campbell changed the whole game - in the ten minutes prior to the goal we had them worried, and we deserved the win.

Excellent stuff :038:

Can't disagree with that.

If ever a game was correctly described as a battling performance, this was it. For all it's deadly-direness in terms of entertainment value, this game was just what the footballing doctor ordered. To keep a clean sheet & restrict the in-form team of the division to zero chances was an immense achievement. The defense were awesome with McCauley just edging it as the best of the bunch. It also shows the folly of those few who were calling for him to be sold last week. Mattock was astonishing - what a player in the making. BTW, don't know if everyone is aware, but Martin O'Neill was there - no doubt to watch Stearman. I'm no fan of RS's but he was excellent too last night & you rather suspect MON will have taken carefull note of Mattock as well.

I think words of praise are due to Holloway here in terms of tactical nouse. I think he gazumped and out-thought Warnock. The latter was probably expecting LCFC to continue their home tactics as per the game against Coventry and play with 2 wingers and keep the ball on the floor. IH was extremely astute in playing with just one winger and not going for a passing game - in his post match interview he alluded to there being little point in playing it to feet all night as he knew the Palace players would just knock, hussle & batter you off the ball. So a big tactical change paid off; it resulted in dire entertainment - but also resulted in a clean sheet and in a win. I'm sure the state of the pitch just added to his reasons for this tactical switch but I just think he out-thought Warnock.

Some comments have been made about Zsolt; I don't think his ankle has recovered and he should be rested for at least a fortnight - no wonder he hasn't played at his best. Bori however looks like he is worth a start whilst giving Zsolt that rest he needs. Finally, several have pointed how sharp Campbell looks - and I agree (I also agree that he is likely to be the long term partner of Howard) - but no-one has pointed out that he really should have scored. I'd also like to add that I thought Hayles had a good game - he put himself about and wasn't afraid of Palaces'/Warnock's bully-boy tactics (he was constantly shoved and man-handled). As Clemence said in the post match interview whilst his goal was a jammy strike you had to be there to put it away - he deserves praise for that. Hume meanwhile was noticibly a disappointment, but IH himself noted again in his Sky interview that Hume is clearly not a wide-right man. Let's hope more options are added to the squad for that position.

One of the the reasons Mattock was so effective was because of the outstanding defensive support he got from Laczko

He might not have looked as dynamic going forward as he did against Cov, but that was the nature of the game and the tactics deployed by both sides

Homeypants are you ok?

I call it how it is, alex, unlike most

When we're shit I tell you we're shit

When we're good, then I let you know

I thought we were outstanding last night - in many (different) ways we were better than against Cov
