Sources at Villa say the Premiership club may look to cash in on the 25-year-old centre back and he could be available for half the £8 million they paid West Bromwich Albion for his services.

Villa boss Gerard Houllier said the number of central defenders at his disposal meant Davies was likely to find his chances limited if he returned.

"There is only one area where we're not short on quality and quantity and that's defence," said Houllier.

I am interested. Would you rate him higher than Tunchev?

Obviously I have only seen Tunchev in League One action. I am only able to judge Davies on home games where I have thought him impressive. My impression was that Tunchev was a better tackler and more accurate distributor though Davies is no slouch at these. On the other hand I think Davies is quicker than Tunchev was.

This is not to dispute that Davies would be an excellent signing.
