What is the fecking point of spending vast sums of money on specialist staff, player supplements, diet and exercise regimes and so on when this sort of thing goes on?

Here's a question that I'd have liked NP to be asked on the phone in last night. Where is your scientific evidence that getting wankered between matches is good, or even neutral, for your performance levels?

Professionals my arse.

Miserable sod.

Was I the only person watching it who was reminded of Alan Partridge's award ceremony to Dante's Fires?

He probably would have pointed you to the league table.

seriously, for the last 10 years we have had under performing wankers getting drunk at this ceremony and you want to lambast the only ****ing squad worthy of actually enjoying the occasion.

Absolute misery

The season is over - Saturday is simply a celebration party

We've waited ten years for this - longer for a side, and a manager, as good as this.

Behave yourself

I'm not sure getting drunk a few times a year is going to be massively detrimental to general fitness and it may help with stress relief but I do think if it becomes regular players need to understand it is a problem.

I'd imagine the point is to try and improve your chances of winning the league, so money clearly well spent.

and the alternative is the club tells any player who has gone out and got drunk at some point to eat what he likes and forget about training? Sounds like a guarantee of success :icon_lol:

tbh, i dont know why this couldnt be arranged for next monday (i know there is the parade but that can finish early enough) - its not like these guys cant afford to start their holidays mid week, rather than a weekend. it doesnt bother me that they are pi**ed as the season is effectively over now. however, i doubt that lee clark and 'olly would be too impressed. ultimately, thats not our problem. they have had 45 games to not be where they are. brighton were lucky the way the fixtures fell and donny might be aswell.

Can't believe this is even being discussed again but credit to BN for staying his opinion and sticking by it as a number have changed their tune now the majority disagree with him.

Stats would have helped win us over BN!

I'm still with BN on this. Active professional athletes shouldn't be ingesting poison at all. The 'end of season' excuse for players to do what they like strikes me as the worst kind of short-term thinking. If a player came back in July two stone overweight he'd be in the reserves until the January transfer window.

But you are talking about a player returning 2 stone overweight and the lads enjoying an award ceremony held purely for them, ever so slightly different.

I wonder if any of the players sampled any alcohol over the last pre-season?

Players ingest all sorts of poisons all of the time, it's a matter of amounts consumed, do you think that taking on several kilos of the sweeteners used in modern 'fitness' drink would do them any good, how about 24 paracetamol in one sitting?

But it's the same sort of irresponsibility when it comes to personal fitness. I'm sure the players at every club in the Championship have had a fair amount of drink throughout the season, but the fact that everyone else is doing it doesn't make it right. If the other teams adopted a tactic of shooting at their own goal for 90 minutes, it doesn't mean it's a good idea to copy it - even if we win the title doing it.

Well I would predict the sports psychologists within the club would advocate the players having a 'blow out' on a very occasional basis. Afterall, they are all human beings and psychologically they would not respond well to completely supressing their will to 'let go'. Some players will let go by having a night out and a few beers, whilst others would do something different, like pigging out on takeaways. Like I said, it is important to remember that they are human beings and they cannot and will not live their live by the book 100% of the time, as it is not possible. We do not function like that and have not evolved in this manner. It is against our nature.

Sorry for the poor grammar - at work!
