Kid are allowed 10 days out of school each year for holidays :icon_wink

Myth.

There is no such entitlement, though the school may authorise absences for "urgent" or "compassionate" reasons.

Holidays during term time

You should not normally take your child on holiday in term time as it can be disruptive both to your child's education and to the school.
Holidays in term time can only be agreed by the headteacher or someone with appropriate authority. Schools can use their discretion to grant up to 10 days’ authorised absence in a school year if:

  • the parent the child normally lives with applies to the school in advance of the holiday
and

  • there are special reasons for the holiday
Schools can only agree to more than 10 school days’ absence in any school year in exceptional circumstances.
Schools must judge each holiday request on a case by case basis. They can take into consideration:

  • the time of year for the proposed trip
  • if it's near any exam dates
  • your child's overall attendance pattern
  • any holidays already taken in the school year
  • the age and stage of education of your child
  • your wishes
  • the ability of your child to catch up the work that they have missed
  • the reason why you are taking the time off during term time

Schools should not take into consideration:

  • availability of cheap holidays
  • availability of desired accommodation
  • poor weather experienced in school holiday periods
  • overlap with the beginning or end of term

Also remember it is a Criminal offence to remove children for holidays without the proper authorisation. :icon_conf

The website you quoted says there have to be special reasons for the holiday. What's your special reason?
I'm kinda guessing Newts wants to go when the holidays are a bit cheaper, the accommodation he wants is available, the weather is better at his chosen period and his dates probably overlap with the term ending/beginning.

Going when its cheaper for one and to see family in Rotterdam ,my mate son has been very ill .he had meningitis last may.

He is still in a wheel chair and needs a few op's on his legs ,something to do with his thigh muscle.

is that good enough for you :icon_roll:icon_roll

not that its got **** all to do with you :icon_wink:icon_bigg

Stupid anyway.

Kids learn far more on holiday (especially abroad) than they do in school.

But what about the other kids that suffer? My missus had 3 kids away on holiday last October from her class and then had to spend time when they got back making sure they got up to scratch and could catch up on work, time that meant she couldn't spend helping the other kids progress. If the kids and their parents where prepared to put in the time at home to catch up it wouldn't be such a problem, but they expect the school to deal with it and make sure they catch up in school time.

One good thing about the schools in Leicestershire is that we have the luxury of having most of our school holidays earlier than the rest of England, therefore we get to benefit from cheaper holidays :icon_bigg

A child who is struggling at school is not going to benefit more from a week in Benidorm with some scrotey chav family

They would be far better off staying in school actually getting the direct support that they may well genuinely need
