Taking a kid out of school just for the sake of an ordinary holiday is the same as telling him that school doesn't matter. If that's what you want him to think, then go ahead.

Did you just say without engaging your brain?

Probably not - it's an excuse I have heard many many times as a school governor working with the head on looking at applications.

It is however a theory worth exploring further - send all the kids on permanent holidays, just nipping back to do their final exams. As a result they will be better educated, results will improve, and we'll save billions on schools, teachers etc.

Agreed ,if my kids where not doing well in school then i would not take them out .

thats a silly remark newts! or have you said that to make yourself feel better by taking them out of school for a holiday on the cheap.

I go on holiday when the schools are shut, I may have to pay more but their education does not suffer. Thats life.

We often go away with some of our relatives who live in Middlesbrough. Ends up costing us more as they break up later than in Leicester. Next year we are going to go on our own as soon as our region breaks up, and we will save £800 by going a week earlier. Like MG said earlier in this thread, it can work in our favour that Leicester is not in line with the rest of the country.

Precisely, if you want to go away during half term or as soon as the schools break up for the summer, there's no need to take holidays during term time based on cost alone.

It's not just cost alone FFS :icon_roll

It's also to do with the temperature and the better choice of accomodation. Do keep up :icon_roll

At the end of the last term neither of my two boys received any educational classes on the last three days of term they were told to bring something in to do/play with or watch DVD's.

My eldest said his form teacher spent hours on his mobile organising a last minute holiday.

I consider the schoold to be good and its OFSTED reports are excellent, but end of term week seems to be a real wind down time for them.

I have a set number of days annual leave but I have to fit in with many others and take it when it the company approves it - we try and work together and share it out but there have been occasions when I could not have any holiday in July or August. I will avoid taking them out school if I can, but I will if I have to.

In such circumstances it would be a very harsh school that would not agree to you taking your kids away in term-time. Yours is not just a matter of choice or convenience.
