Marco Júlio Castanheira Afonso Alves Ferreira is a Portuguese football currently playing for Leicester City on loan from SL Benfica. He was born in Vimioso, Portugal on March 12, 1978 and he is a midfielder that stands 177 cm tall and weights 75 kg.

He is a player known primarily for his speed, who has seen a halt in his progress as a footballer since joining the Portuguese giants in Lisbon. He started his career at Tirsense in Portugal. In the 98 season he played at Atlético Madrid but after six months he joined Yokohama Flugels in Japan. In the 98-99 season he signed with FC Paços de Ferreira, where he was a key player. After, in the 99-00 season he signed with Vitória Setúbal where he played from 1999 to 2002. He then joined FC Porto, where he was part of the UEFA Champions League 2003-04-winning side after the club had won the UEFA Cup in 2003, and added the UEFA Super Cup in 2004. After his seasons with FC Porto he moved to Vitória SC for the 2004-05 season. In the 2005 season he joined FC Penafiel but was then transferred to SL Benfica. While in Benfica, Marco was unable to establish himself as a first team player, henceforth being placed on the transfer list. Recently, Ferreira has rejected an offer from CSKA Sofia and on 31 August 2007 he joined Leicester City on loan until December 31.

Marco's first international cap came in a friendly against Tunisia. He has played four games for the Portugal national football team.
