The % of government revenue spent on healthcare in France and Germany are higher, plus the amount of doctors to the person is over a third higher.

It's not 'free' (another debate) like ours, or at least that's what I was told.

For over 96% of the country it is 100% free in france. Only people who retire under the age of 65 have to pay.

And in Germany?

Im not to well informed on Germany i will admit. I be,lieve they have recently devised a new system where health care comes straight out of earnings, half paid by the employee and half by the employer.

I do however believe France to be a better example in terms of a fair comparison and similarities.

Try Nic, especially in France.

Obviously there are bound to be areas of higher taxation etc, however you could easily say that is more than made up for by the cheaper cost of living in France.

Not only do we get taxed to the eyeballs here, but we have a ridiculous housing market and a very high cost of living.

Maybe the differencess in all of these things make an overall comparison unfair. When simply looking at fuel however, it is obvious we are paying too much.

I'm bored of driving now anyway. With the cost of running a car as well as sitting in traffic more often than not, I'm getting on me push bike. There are some top class cycle lanes in Leicester these days.

Some. The one from Fosse Park is great. The one along London Road is awful.

Their income tax has a top bracket of 40% the same as us

The first €5,666 of taxable income is tax free

€5,666 to €6,166 - 5%

€6,166 to €7,000 - 10%

€7,001 to €10,833 - 15 %

€10,834 to €14,000 - 20%

€14,001 to €18,333 - 25%

€18,334 to €21,333 - 30%

€21,334 to €25,334 - 35%

€25,334 to €41,000 - 40%

€41,001 to €58,000 - 45 %

€58,001 to €67,166 - 50%

€67,167 to €77,333 - 55 %

€77,334 and upwards - 58%

And their doctors paid under half what ours get...

I bet they actually get paid though, unlike thousands of our NHS staff. The fundamental errors made here are sometimes bewildering.

they tax more in France (their socialist party is actually socialist) but tax avoidance for the french middle classes is a national sport, loads of them live in Switzerland or London...
