Gallagher and Wellens

I think that you just have to accept Gallagher for what he is - a a skilful player who can change a game on his day. Pearson clearly thinks that he's worth a regular place in the squad on that basis and that was his reputation when he joined us.

Wellens has been a top player at this level and maybe can have a decent run in to the season.

As people have pointed out and everyone knows lack of consistency in overall team performances has been the big problem and we are now in the difficult position where we would need to go from total inconsistency to possibly not losing another game.

So, apart from the crosses, free-kicks, corners, penalties, 25yard goals, roads, wine, aquaducts and peace - what have the Gallaghers ever done for us?

There were a couple of things yesterday that put me right off Gallagher. Firstly, his goal celebrations cupping his ears at the crowd were pathetic. In addition, he refused to be interviewed on RL after the game.

I don't believe in dismissing players who are out of form but clearly have some ability. I backed Gallagher the other week when most were calling for him to be dropped. Yesterday proved that having him in the team clearly has its advantages.

But he's nowhere near good enough to merit the sort of behaviour he demonstrated yesterday. It was petulant, immature and unprofessional. In response to this, I will now take great pleasure in joining in the abuse when he reverts back to ineffective performances. Feck him.

He celebrated the same as he always has.

Who are you most looking forward to going off form so you can 'boo'?

I think that **** Schmeichel really has it coming to him when he makes his next mistake.

The problem is, that if you keep doing what you've always done, the results will be the same. If we accept that Gallagher has a regular 1st team spot, but only performs once in four to five outings, how are we ever to build a team to challenge for promotion?

Yes.

Which is why I'm mostly annoyed that the entire world of Google agrees with you. :icon_bigg

I still remember the embarrassment I felt when a dictionary was waved under my nose to prove that I, a boater too, had been spelling it incorrectly. Not that that compared with the moment when a paper that I had written on the effects of maternal deprivation was returned with 'seperate' scored through a million and ten times. I still cringe at the thought.

I don't really understand the thought that Wellens played well because Drinkwater allowed him to. I thought Wellens played well because Wellens played well. He played at a high tempo and passed the ball really well. He was really competitive and dominated the opposition. Gallagher won the game for us and has now scored 9 goals for us this season. People love scapegoats and currently it is Wellens and Gallagher. Lets be fair this season we could gripe about the majority of the team. Mills, St-Ledger, Konchesky, Danns, Beckford and more have all had several below par performances. Constant criticism and sledging of certain players has no benefit whatsoever, other than perhaps relieving some built up sexual tension.

What annoys me is that Gallagher gets berated for not tackling hard enough or competing for headers yet Dyer gets away with doing exactly the same. Waghorn rarely wins headers and tackles recklessly giving away endless free kicks, the same as Howard. But they get away with it. There is no logic to fans, except Lako, he hates everyone.

What Gallagher did well yesterday was close down the opposition and work back. He not make crunching tackles but he showed he can carry out defensive roles effectively.

Fans can be hilarious at times.

Yeah, players should be robots who should just take abuse and show no emotion or reaction to it. They should happily be jeered, sarcastically cheered when substituted and have personal abuse spouted at both them and their wife on twitter and just take and not react. They should "man up" and bottle all that emotion up inside.

But, no, you're right. That's the final straw! Gallagher is now public enemy #1 because he made the simple gesture of cupping his hand round his ear after getting dog's abuse from tens of thousands of fans for making a few mistakes in his job.

If I was Gallagher I'd be sticking my v's up at the kop, not just cupping my ear. In fact, Cantona had the right idea.

What was it John Salako said about football fans? Something like it's a communal thought in football that fans are stupid, think the game is more important than it is and that fans are incredibly fickle and can be won over/go overboard on the silliest things? He was spot on whatever he said.

Nugent is another one who seems to get away with it. The likes of Hume and Waghorn were criticised for not scoring often enough and only working hard, with little end product, yet Nugent seems to be idiolised for working hard and scoring 12 or 13 goals a season.
