If the temperatures get too high can't we just switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius?

has anyone noticed that english people use celsius when it's cold and farenheit when it's hot

that's ****ed up

you will when you start getting taxed on stuff because of it

But that is already happening - primarily because of the hysteria being whipped up by environmental nutters which has conveniently created a nice justification for the Government to introduce some lovely 'green' taxes

All other parties are too shit scared to complain about them for fear of being seen to be 'anti-green'

It's a pitiful state of affairs

the parties are too scared of killing homosexuals too for fear of being labelled "anti-gay"

To right....with full scuba gear and a 15Ltr tank, keeping out of the way of the goldfish crew and their "sun protection" creams
and its better than swimming up and down up and down up and down in a fecking pool.

Couldn't give a flying ****, to be honest

Yeah future of the planet doesn't affect me, wonder whats on Sky Sports News?

What do you give a **** about Homer?

The problem the IPCC have is that the message they convey is extreme so they can be perceived as hysterical tree huggers. Just because the message is extreme doesn't mean it isn't based on facts like the massive increase in atmospheric CO2.

The message isn't hysterical, its considered opinion of 1000's of scientists over the last 5 years who have greater than 95% confidence human activity has caused the increase in CO2 concentration. Me banging on any more probably isn't going to change anyone's mind on here though.

If you're not 100% convinced its all a load of bollocks read the 4th annual climate change report here http://www.ipcc.ch/ or what Anglian water think it means for them here http://www.anglianwater.co.uk/asset...trategic_direction_statement_2010_2035_wl.pdf

My wife, my kids - my family and my friends (?)

And then the things that directly affect their everyday life - money issues, education for my kids, the state of my/their local community. The things that really matter to everyone, rather than some pretentious enviro-friendly twaddle

Next on my (personal) list come fighting social injustice, poverty, discrimination, bigotry, the abuse (any kind) of individuals, exploitation and downright nastiness by individuals and/or corporations. Those I see as extremely important issues, and I spend some time doing something about them when I get the chance, but I don't generally wet my pants about them

A long, long way down the list is a load of pissy unproven shite about the feckin' environment

It's just not important, and neither is what is on Sky Sports News - but thanks for your bleeding heart concern

Where do these 1000s of scientists get their funding from?

No I'm not Greenpeace, they are high on protests low on solutions.

I'd like warm weather in the UK too, but unfortunately its attached to the rest of the world with pretty intricate relationships. If the climate changes a lot, sea levels rise and there's wars all over the shop over water and bread, the fact this country is a bit warmer is going to be scant consolation when you have to pay £500 for a loaf of bread and this already crowded country is smaller and more populated.

so if you cannot afford it, don't buy the bread.

and why do you use the word "IF". Are you still not certain then?

In the case of the IPCC its the UN. Can't see how they'd gain from falsely reporting their findings.

Can you not? Then you're probably best to just blindly follow whatever scaremongering that you're fed.

Anybody else remember in the late 70's the hysteria that we were about to enter the next ice age?

and the changing of the magnetic polarity of the poles

I'll be able to afford it because I'm minted.

I use the word IF because IF we do something about Carbon emissions we will be able to avoid the worst effects. IF we don't and global warming occurs within the predicted range of scenarios we're ****ed. That's why i use the word IF.

4 scenarios

1 global warming is all bollocks we waste time energy and money on trying to produce cleaner energy and recycle stuff. Worst case big time global depression due to finance diverted away from industry.

2 global warming is all bollocks we do nowt we're fine

3 global warming isn't all bollocks we do something about it and minimise effects

4 global warming isn't all bollocks we do nowt big time global depression and massive food shortages, wars over resources blah blah blah you get the picture its like 1 but worse so we should do something.

or what about, everybody takes global warming seriously, and manages to reverse the effects and sends the world into the next ice age.
It is then discovered that global warming occurs naturally to prevent ice ages happening.

Explain how the UN benefit then. There are plenty of better funded projects than the IPCC for scientists to get involved in.

I'm not blindly following anything I have spent the last 2 years reading around the subject and have made my mind up. Especially given the data from ice cores on atmospheric CO2 which is clear, hard fact taken from 1000's of samples across hundreds of points across.

I think the 4th IPCC report is pretty unequivocal, if you can provide some material which says atmospheric CO2 levels are not rising I'll read it evaluate it and if it stacks up I'll change my mind.
