The Lib Dems have agreed to a cap on immigration and a commitment not to join the euro for the lifetime of the parliament.

This, regardless of what one thinks about immigration caps, is the most amazing climb down of all. I seriously wonder if Clegg will be able to deliver on this.

Should they support this, surely, Liberalism is dead.

i actually quite like the mash up of policies they've come up with

now to let the Tories do what they do best, slash spending on hospitals, schools and benefits

nothing wrong with slashing benefits, that needs to be done.

Im getting a bit pissed off with this thread. Mainly because every time i see the title i keep singing

................... texture like sun
Lays me down with my mind she runs
Throughout the night
No need to fight
Never a frown with Gordon Brown

No wonder it's started to rain.

So many people not even prepared to give it a chance :102:

More to the point, how long will it give itself a chance? A large proportion of liberal MPs were very unhappy - particularly those who had got in largely on a "vote for me to keep the tories out" campaign. A significant number only went along with the deal in the end on the basis that there was a list of issues on which, if they were put forward, they would defy the whip.

And the tory old guard are already snorting into their pink gins over the agreement reached.

The first flash point is likely to be the attempt to change the vote of confidence rules being proposed to try to get round this.
