BB they just never believe you when you try and explain what it was like to walk down a road and up ahead a gang of 100 plus opposition fans are walking towards you and then suddenly they are running at you armed to the teeth.

and not a bit of feckin burberry in sight

Heh the good old days BG  . I could have given Linford a run for his money when being chased outside of Anfield.

Debateable, cos i doubt that some of those prats who were hell bent on causing trouble had the brains to realize that they were on camera when they went about their business. My reference to all seater stadia is because the atmosphere in the grounds as been dimmed with the demise of the terrace. Also the stadiums now can be far easily controlled with the distribution of tickets ensuring that there are far fewer problems than there used to be.

At filbert Street before seating, there were always lads being thrown out for causing trouble. The OB used to walk you down the side of the pitch, down the tunnel and chuck you out. You then had to run round and pay again to get back in..... the atmosphere used to be more intense by miles

The away fans would also infiltrate various parts of the ground and then take the ritual applause as the plod lead them back to the kop.

My old man was involved in a lot of the stuff in the late 70's and 80's. He was part of the Longstock if that means anything to you?

and coming back from West Ham with no windows in the coach

My memory of walking up the Upperton Rd about 5 o'clock after a game was the large mob who were walking in the opposite direction towards the ground. Ten mins later when i was on the Narborough Rd i could hear the distant sound of sirens.

The cattle market used to be lively as well...

two conversations in one thread, space saving. so which is your favorite pie

It depends on the situation. Down the footy it has to be Chicken Balti, down the chippy its Steak and Kidney all the way, and for dessert I like a bit of Apple pie.

what about you?

:icon_lol:

Would be interested to know if anyone on here was at a match that i went to in the mid-late 80's.
Middlesborough away last game of the season. Boro needed a result to gain auto promotion and city had nothing to play for. 28000 fans ( about 5-600 city) party atmosphere, forgone conclusion. Not on your life, city played out their skins and won 2-1. The PA system announced to the Boro fans that your play-off tickets will be on sale from Monday, of which us small band of city fans erupted in pleasure at their misfortune of missing auto promotion. They kept us in the ground for about an hour after the game, and according to the mockery there was about 3000 Boro fans camped out at the away end wanting to fill us in for spoiling their big day:icon_lol:
