i love pukka pies so much i recently did a piece of uni course work on them, got so hungry doing that

Would be interested to know if anyone on here was at a match that i went to in the mid-late 80's.
Middlesborough away last game of the season. Boro needed a result to gain auto promotion and city had nothing to play for. 28000 fans ( about 5-600 city) party atmosphere, forgone conclusion. Not on your life, city played out their skins and won 2-1. The PA system announced to the Boro fans that your play-off tickets will be on sale from Monday, of which us small band of city fans erupted in pleasure at their misfortune of missing auto promotion. They kept us in the ground for about an hour after the game, and according to the mockery there was about 3000 Boro fans camped out at the away end wanting to fill us in for spoiling their big day:icon_lol:

Gary Mac scored the winner if I remember, I was there :038: :038: :038:

People in this post seem to be enjoying reminiscing about the old days when the trouble was worse. Personally I think it doesn't deserve the attention it gets. Some people seem to condemn it but then idolise it at the same time.

I'm glad it's not as bad as it was and it definetely doesn't seem to be on as large a scale as it used to be from what I know (less organisation and firms) but whether it's a huge group or smaller groups, football hooliganism is pathetic and the people that do it are idiots. Case in point, I got started on at the Walkers a couple of years ago by a few of our own fans, just because I was walking towards the train station so therefore I must be an away fan... despite the fact that I was wearing my City shirt. The football is just an excuse for them to start a fight, not the cause of it. Stupid chavs.

I once got stuck between Janet & Mrs Betty Bickerdyke when old John had been tending to Mrs Bickerdyke's taters.

Janet wasn't pleased, Melton knows what an handbag feels like at 75mph

i was at that boro game was awesome.thought there was about 1500 city though.they were everywhere that day trying to get in the boro were, on the stands opposite us which was by no means small.remember looking over the wall watching the running battles between the ob and the boro, was scary at the time i think i was 14/15 at the time.

always going to be a hooligan element at all clubs, personally its not a bad thing if thats what they want to do let them get on with it.
not often they start on people wearing colours is it.

If people want to fight they should join boxing clubs.

Even if hooligans have 'rules', innocent people do get caught up in it. Last time I saw football related violence was at Wolverhampton station a few years ago. I was on the platform where it was happening and I knew I wasn't in any real danger, because I wasn't going to get involved. But the people waiting for trains - families with kids etc were understandably scared by what was going on around them.

talking of which ive heard whisper brum are bringing some old zulu boys for some grief next week .with 5.15 kick off should be interesting

Better get Michael Caine along then

As we came from London and had to catch the train, we expained to problem to the Police, and they let us out at final whistle and took us to the station in a minibus, sirens blaring, wrong side of the road, etc. Brilliant.

well i'm glad i've never had to go to football when it's been like this-i do remember my dad saying in a game against grimsby or something they avoided trouble when a bloke came up to them as my mum was pregnant at the time!

You mean if Grimsby supporters had more bottle we might not have to read your posts?:icon_wink

The only violence I've seen was the Chelsea cup tie at filbert St. (finished 2-2). A handful of Chelsea fans got into the Kop (old pen 3) and it all kicked off - there was proper punches in the face and everything. Then at half time I went down to meet my mates in the upper Carling stand and a fight nearly kicked off when some twat had a go at a guy saying "you're a Chelsea fan! twat!" and started pushing him around and the guy went "I'm from Braunstone". End of story.

Oh - and Stoke away in playoff 2nd leg - nasty.
