I think the timing of this suggests that season ticket sales weren't going particularly well.....
I think it's clever.

Let Holloway go and tell the press what he thinks he heard. Ticket sales go up because he's staying.

When they slow down again, go and tell the press what was actually said, and that the idiot was never told he was staying. Sales pick up again.

Sales slow down again, sack Holloway, sales pick up again.

Sales slow down again, announce high profile Manager, sales pick up again.

Job done.

Very likely - I think this may well have been a factor.

You can't fool all the people all the time and many supporters will have felt that someone had to be punished for the relegation and no doubt Mandaric took the view that the ST sales business was more damaged by Holloway staying then the potential for a re-launch with a new manager.

I think the timing is more to do with the long weekend. :icon_wink

just saw this message on a plymouth messageboard from one of their fans.......I feel cheated.

I might be in minority here but I was rather hoping he would not get sacked. He had absolutely no backing at all amongst the fans and he was just the bloke to keep them in the doldrums for another year at least and with luck he might have done some real irreparable long-term damage whilst he was there.

If he didn't and he actually got them back up then he would have had to come to HP as Leicester boss at some stage and I was looking forward to that too (and that is pitting it mildly).

Now he'll get a good pay off and pop up on TV as a pundit every so often living the life of Reilly.

I can't see anything to celebrate in this at all unless Leicester appoint Graeme Souness, Peter Reid or Bryan Robson..

Jog on Plymouth, I really could not give a ginsters about their opinions. One good thing of IH going is that hopefully the 'green army' can turn their attentions elsewhere.

What has that got to do with anything? Sorry - am i being really thick?

It is announced now rather than on Tuesday morning. That would leave the whole weekend trying to keep the lid on it. Also by releasing it late on a Friday, I was in the pub and saw it on SSN, makes it difficult to follow the story up. :102:

I dont personally see how it can be viewed as anything other than a punishment for relegation.
I sort of agreeed with that,if we were still in the Championship rightly or wrongly he would still be here.He would have been given X amount of matches to put things right but because we went down he had to go.I'm glad he's gone because I don't think he's a very good Manager and his motivational skills and tactical awareness are awful,he had a good eye for a player though. He may do ok elsewhere but I don't think he will ever be a very good Manager

Indeed Alex but unless we get someone who has been out of the game a while like Newell or Cotterill then be prepared to have their bitter fans on here

NOOOOOO. I'm devastated. Holloway was funny and I'll have to take off my hollowmask now. Damn. My missus loves my hollowmask.

I really doubt we'll be able to attract a decent manager like big sam and some of the others mentioned but should still be able to get a better class of player than most teams in this divison purely because we can throw money at the mercenary bastards.
