Re: Holloway out

can one of our statisticians give us the Martin O'Neill's results after 13 (Sheffield United at home?) games...
And in the same report, can you please also give us the stats for all the other Managers over the last 20 years for their first 13 games as well?.

We'll then compile a Probability Report

you're missing my point...I personally agree that stats are of little value but as football fans they are often used to cement arguments or back up instincts...calling for IH's head is premature in my opinion but it is exactly what happened to MON after a similar period....I'm looking for patience even though mine will also be wearing thinner and thinner if we continue to slide..

Yes, calling for his head is a little premature, and I'm 100% in agreement, but as far as I'm aware nobody is yet doing that.

But if we're just as bad in 4,5,6 games time, then I think the tide will turn.

Re: Holloway out

I can't help thinking that we need to get a bit of perspective here.

In the old days we wouldn't dream of getting rid of a manager who's only been in charge for a dozen or so games and has only had the opportunity to buy his own players for 5 days??!!

We have had so many managers in the last couple of years it's just becoming a habit to change and every time we're hoping this one is the one.

I have to be honest that when we appointed IH I thought he was the guy with the poorest long term potential of any manager I think we've ever had (possible exception RK) but he has also inherited the worst set up squad I think we've ever had in terms of balance.

Signing two strikers with a combined agerof 66 and 3 goals so far this season is also not particularly enlightening either...

But we have to give him a chance I don't see the alternative.

Re: Holloway out

From what i have seen of Howard I think is a good buy for this league. He won most of the balls up to him today, but no one was running on expecting a flick on. We desperately need some service to the strikers and I think a little bit of luck to get the ball rolling.

Re: Holloway out

I have, but very little. Do you think he's done anything to suggest my faith in him should be getting stronger?

Not really, it just seems stupid to me to continue going around sacking managers every couple of months, I don't see how that will help.

Re: Holloway out

Out of the FA Cup and one place above the last relegation place on goal difference. IH has had a quarter of the season to "weave his magic". :102:

How is it ridiculous to challenge your version of received wisdom? :102: The facts speak for themselves. :102:

You say a quarter of a season like it's a long time! It's just 2.5 months! They say it takes 6 months for your average worker to start making a worthwhile contribution after starting a new job in a new company! But that's not really the point I want to make.

If Ollie had had the summer to build the squad and we're in this position in mid October, then I might be in agreement. But so far, he's inherited about 35 sh!t players, none of whom want to play for this club, or are capable of it. (Ok, so that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but it's not far off).

It will take Ollie more than 1 transfer window to get rid of the cr@p and bring in the decent new players and change the attitude in the dressing room. The players he really wants probably won't be available in this window. But at the end of the season, more will be - from teams that go up as well as down from the Championship.

Fingers crossed one of those teams going down isn't us.

Agreed but in the end Holloway was told by MM wanted he wanted and he took the job.If he thinks he's going to need a year to improve us at all then he shouldn't have took the job.Make no mistake if we don't improve we will be relegated and Holloway will be out and it will be no ggood Holloway then saying he wasn't given long enough,he knew the score when he accepted the job and the salary

He can't have known just how bad some of our players are though, it is actually pathetic that MA2 was ever allowed to think about signing Cort, Newton and chums, never mind actually buy them.

I don't think we will go down with Holloway as manager, I do however think that if we keep changing managers we will. The season so far has just been constant upheaval and change, no one knows whats going on.

Also on top of this we cannot make exactly the same mistake made in the summer, and let the manager buy all his own players then sack him within a few weeks.

Re: Holloway out

We have twenty matches left. Not a lot of time to work with really. I hope Holloway can turn things around. We need a bit of stability at this club, but not at the cost of relegation. If we don't start improving after the new players from the "window" have had a chance to gel then we're in deep trouble. So is Holloway IMO.

Re: Holloway out

In a discussion I had with Babylon I posed the point that although it might resemble some sort of stability to persist with Holloway, I do not feel that he has had enough of an impact so far to justify too much leeway.

I am happy enough to admit I might be wrong but with each successive game at the moment he justifies my point of view.

How much longer does he get? :icon_conf :102:

Simple - as long as it takes.........

The guy needs the fans support, not threads like this, maybe you'd prefer Craig Levein back??

Re: Holloway out

Well what a surprise, Mr f*cking negative strikes again.

If you put as much effort into supporting the team we'd be in the premiership by now, it's all your fault, you only go to games so that you can boo the team
Random post from a random poster(who reads a lot but only posts when feels its constructive.)About right

Re: Holloway out

Ludicrous thread.

It seems to me that the question has been answered quite resoundingly.

Can we please close this thread and let it sink to the bottom of the pile as it seriously highlights the pathetic trend of judging people so quickly that has crept into this club.

I ****ing hate the way our fans are acting these days, peoples stupid expectations after 10 ****ing games is so unreasonable it is seriously effecting my enjoyment (as much as the shit players) of supporting my club.

Anyone who thinks that a 1/4 of a season is enough time knows absolutley nothing about football and seriously needs to take a look at themselves and the type of team they support.

This club will take more than 2.5 bloody months to sort out. We can all see how much damage has been done over the last few years and im sure most of us are intelligent enough to realise it will take a damn site more planning and action that what has currently been seen.

IH is 5 DAYS into remoulding this steaming pile of shite into a polished football team, i will press anyone not willilling to give him the time to offer me an alternative who they think could do it in 10 games.

Lets face it, if you cant offer a suggestion, and there is no alternative, then this club would be going straight back to square one AGAIN, into a possition where non of us want to be, in a posstion where the new manager comes in and says ' there is a lot of work to do' AGAIN.

Lets all remember what support is all about, it has been lost (and over the past years i can see why) im not talking about being loud down the Walkers, im not even talking about turning up, im talking about having enough about us as a group of fans to remember what giving someone real time really is, and the results that it may well bring.

Absolutely top post, the most sense ive read on here in a long time

Re: Holloway out

As expected, hysteria has shown it's face, opinions have been called ludicrous, high horses have been ridden, moral high ground has been populated, ignorance has been displayed, but worst of all, Steven tried to raise a debate and gets slammed. Inequality between the way people are treated is again an issue, and the inarticulate resort to throwing toys instead of engaging in conversation.

This place is a joke sometimes.

Re: Holloway out

Imo our fans look at other clubs and see new managers go in and revive a struggling team. Quite often they see teams that have had a bad run and are short of confidence , the new manager brings in new ideas and hey presto they are up and running again. But it wont happen like that here, simply because the club is hoarding far too many 'very average' players. Mourinhio, Fergie, Wenger it dosent matter who comes in, the team needs totally rebuilding. Nobody imo could do a great deal with this team. The players over a period of time have got to be changed.
