us sceptics did take some barbed comments at the time but am I bitter and twisted about it? - well yes as it happens.:icon_wink

I wonder if you would be able to spell out exactly what alternatives there were to the Mandaric takeover.

I appreciate that it may take some time for you to come up with a response on this one, so I won't be holding my breath!

And most of us have not been quick to say "I told you so" or to jump on another bandwagon, because there is no pleasure in having been vindicated.

The fact is the club has become the plaything of a footie obsessive and desperately needs some hard, cold leadership.

....I'll hold my hands up. I was fully-pro MM, only recently have I been able to see the wood for the trees......

OG - Your 'fact' is infact, 'fact'

I still have to be convinced the club was going down the toilet at the time, as some had claimed.

Good points OG - us sceptics did take some barbed comments at the time but am I bitter and twisted about it? - well yes as it happens.:icon_wink

"Look at where Pompey are and look at where we are now" seemed to be a popular jibe at the time. Probably one to reconsider now.

I appreciate that you and Dour have a different perspective to me on these issues but I still haven't read anything from either of you that indicates there were other viable options.

Also; I seem to recall that the previous board seemed more than slightly desperate to sell the club to Mandaric.

At the time the status quo was an option in my opinion - as soon as MM came sniffing the board had to sell up otherwise they would have been lynched, as you probably would agree.

Bocadillo you are being very pedantic my post was perfectly accurate for the purposes of the forum far more so than rabbit books if we really want to split hairs move on

I broadly agree.

The Mandaric approach developed a momentum and a PR strategy and was seen as a great opportunity.

However, generally speaking, this sort of approach only works when there is nothing substantial in the way - like a knife cutting through butter - and that's how I see what happened.

This argument about Mandaric reminds me of the old poser about money buying happiness.
Milan may not have bought happiness (yet!) but, we can be miserable in considerably greater comfort.
Before MM's take over, this was a club dying slowly. We would, as we now are, have dropped to the third tier and sold off all our assets. At least with Milan's backing, we might be able to hang on to some of our promising players and get back to the Championship where, who knows, with further cash injections, we might push for a return of Premiership football. Where was that hope before Milan?

I think Leicester City is reflected in Richard Stearman.

Full of potential that never seems to materialise. Every so often he'll do something that brings the excitement back again, but uiltimately, despite all the hype and hope, you know he's gonna never succeed at the level expected of him.

He's a lower league player being built up by only one set of people, Leicester City.

and he has thin legs.

My point is people are quick to forget how they felt at the time, but are even quicker to say I told you so, or I'd rather have a Martin George than a Milan Mandaric - I bet you would not have said that 12 months ago.

And its the same with new players - when we signed Oakley, Howard, Hendrie most of us were pleased with these signings as we thought they would be good additions to the squad. All I here now is that its Holloways fault for signing a load of dudds!

Face it City fans, like most footy fans, we all talk a good game but the fact is we are a fickle bunch who say one thing when it suits us and jump on another band wagon when it doesn't.

But I guess that is why sites like this exist............
You never change your mind? You never find yourself at the front of the queue in McDonalds going "I'll have a cheese quarter poun...oooh no, hang on, I'll have the filet o' fish. Sorry"?

Me? I reckon the ability to take on board new facts and reguage your position on issues is quite an important asset in the sentient.

As a spotty kid I was well into revolutionary socialism whereas now I understand it to be a pile of cock. This does not mean I jumped onto a CallmeDave bandwagon.

When Mandaric came I hoped we would see the best bits of him and not a repeat of his earlier mistakes, I hoped he had learned from the past and that we were going to have a good future. I no longer believe he offers us a good future based on his time here.

When we signed two players from Derby who had achieved promotion and were accompanied by wails from distraught Derby fans I though 'fab!' and 'great!' and 'here we bloody well go!'

Amazingly enough no bandwagon has gone by my front door - I watched the tossers play football, I made my mind up based on experience.

Finally, when it came to Holloway I refused to rant and rage upon relegation - I wanted him to stay but watching him totally undermined by Mandaric, compounding the other issues surrounding him.has left his position untenable.

Funnily enough HM, I don't think I am alone in thinking through issues.

Like my golf too! One decent shot that makes me fork out next time but the rest of it is shite!

off topic alert!
Disco Bob,
Don't give up the faith man... I was into it as a spotty kid too. I agree that the revolution aint ever goin to happen (unlike the SWP etc) but I kind of retain more than a lingering affinity for the belief system and analytical critique of capitalism & the ruling class. However, knowing the revolution aint gonna come means you can live your life in a somewhat more balanced way than the far left cults/sects do. However, there's no way I'm defecting to bluer shades of political affiliation. I'm still red in tooth and claw. I'm used to fighting for and supporting lost causes... after all, I've been a Leicester City supporter for over 30 years.

Nothing to do with my being pedantic. If you want to label a speculative story in a newspaper as a 'press release', that is a matter for you; they are two very different things. Perhaps you don't even know the difference. Your post was not accurate.

(I think this must be the slowest discussion I have ever been involved in)
