so i take it no-one knows the answer to my question :icon_eek:

To do what I think you want to do you have to mount the iPod in disk mode, find the folder the songs are stored in and then drag the ones you want onto your hard disk.

i know you can manually transfer from Pc->iPod but can you manually transfer songs from iPod->Pc if you don't have them on your pc?

sorry, I'd forgotten the initial question and therefore my post looks really patronising :icon_redf .

Does the PC not recognise the ipod at all, or just not through itunes. It's just a removable drive after all - although when you see the files on the PC I don't think the filenames make any sense (haven't got my ipod docked at the moment so I'm just guessing from memory)

Here you go.

I use this for cutting out the intro's and using at is a ringtone. Good simple piece of software. I have Sweet Child.. & Motorcycle Emptiness ringtones free, because they are from my own MP3s

cheers MF, I'll give it a go

So is Creative zen just as easy not too mention it works well with most popular legal and illegal soft ware im sure lol

I have a zen and although it doesn't look as nice as an ipod it works fine and you don't have to piss around with itunes and that bull cack.

There seems to be a huge misconception about itunes amongst those that have never used it. It's just a peice of software to get your music on to your iPod, much the same as the Zen I would assume. I rarely buy music from the itunes store yet still manage to get downloaded stuff on to the iPod without any trouble at all.

The iPod won't work with monthly subscription services like Napster, where you can download an unlimited number of songs for a fixed monthly price.

Does this use a special file format then?

Doesn't the ipod work like any hard drive. Just connect, drag and drop
