We certainly need midfielders. If we spend about the same again(as we did on wellens) on a playmate for him(but more attacking) then we should be looking at a fairly sturdy, goal-starting midfield.

God knows we need a goal-scoring midfield.
And with regards Adams, I think there we have a player reacting well to Nige's training regimes... Because he looks OK this year- but last year he looked utter rubbish.

Never got the chance last year and when he eventually did, he over-tried. One start this season and he looked more than good enough.

From what little we saw of Adams last year there are players at the club with better technique but none more willing to put their body on the line - or perhaps more accurately their head near an opponents boot. I would be surprised if there was a braver player than Adams at the club and for that I admire him.
