You know most like big teams they try to aim to win every competition they enter. Regardless of how relevant and whats advantages they are to winning them - they still adopt a professional attitude in an attempt to win it. I'd like us to be the same really.

Seems that it comes down to sheer snobbery and the belief that we are 'too good' for the JPT rather then any footballing reasons.

As I have said before even though it is a lower league trophy, winning it would be less embarassing then getting knocked out.

i agree with you :038:

The FA Cup is a tad more enthralling than the JPT.Theres a chance of meeting one of the Premier League sides, the revenue of a FA Cup run and all the other stuff that is associated with the FA Cup so I would hope we put at as full a strength side as possible.People look out for FA CUP results, some of the morning papers don't even bother printing the JPT results, its a non entity trophy in football circles

thats because most if not all journalists are only bothered about the premiership

Is that why 'big teams' tend to field reserve sides in the Carling Cup?

Last season's final was between Portsmouth and Cardiff - with Barnsley also making the Semi-final and Bristol Rovers making the quarters. I fail to see why we could not get just as close at some point in the future

And we have no chance whatsoever of winning the Premier League - does that mean we must refuse to play there in the eventuality of us getting promoted some time in the future ?

It's not about some time in the future its about this season and getting promoted. People argued that we shouldnt waste our time with the JPT, even though we could win it, and I was suggesting that if that is the case we shouldnt waste our time with the FA Cup, which we have no chance of winning this season.

But those two arguments don't follow do they ? :icon_conf

Why dont they?

People argued we shouldnt waste or time on the JPT and are risking injuries and players getting distracted. How is this different from the FA Cup?

The JPT is a waste of time because the competition is utterly worthless and embarrassing shite

In fact it's less than that

You simply cannot compare that to the most prestigious cup competition in the world.

Frankly I would be happier that we reach the second round of the FA cup this year than winning the most embarrassing trophy in football

But that's a matter of taste. Some people go to every reserve game and get all emotional about whether we win or not. I couldn't give a stuff

Good luck to you all - I don't laugh at you or criticise you. If you get pleasure out of it, then good for you

They are saying its a waste of time even if we did win it as it has no kudos or beneficial advantage to the club. The FA Cup however is always a possibilty which is why it is the most cherished KO cup in football (well maybe behind the Jules Rimet). Nobody would bat an eyelid if we got knocked out the JPT same as nobody would care if we won it. Having said that if we did make it I would put that all to one side and have cracking day at Wembley :038:

So are you arguing that getting knocked out would be less embarassing then winning it?

People won't notice if we are knocked out.

On the otherhand, people will take the p-ss if we win it.

But, hey, if some fans want to have a great day out for themselves at Wembley, then good luck to them.

My main concern is incurring unnecessary injuries in a meaningless competition. I think the FA Cup is somewhat different because although it has been downgraded in importance in recent years, it remains worthy of interest although not a priority at all for Leicester City i.e. we need to get out of the Third Division and back on the football map.
I was very critical of the club last season - especially the length of time it took to get rid of the absurd Holloway. I am full of admiration for the job that Pearson is doing and the quiet effective approach that he takes - I just don't want unnecessary injuries to spoil things.

Getting knocked out of this competition would be hardly reported nor noticed.

Give over - the Mercury would be full of it.

Look at the way we enjoyed Leeds getting knocked out last week. Do you want people to be laughing at our premature ejaculation from this competition?

Is that why 'big teams' tend to field reserve sides in the Carling Cup?

Most of the bigger teams due tend to change things around for the Carling Cup - but no more than we did for our game against Hartlepool in the JPT. They still have the ultimate intention of winning it and soon as it gets to the quarter-finals, they start fielding their best 11.

Chelsea's team versus Pompey in this year's 3rd Round
Chelsea: Cech ,Ivanovic ,Terry ,Alex ,Bridge ,Belletti ,Ballack (Ferreira ,69 ) ,Lampard (Sinclair ,74 ) ,Kalou ,Malouda ,Drogba (Di Santo ,79)

Man United's vs. M'boro at the same stage.
Man Utd: Amos ,Rafael Da Silva ,Vidic ,Brown ,O'Shea ,Nani ,Possebon (Gibson ,72 ) ,Anderson ,Giggs (Manucho ,84 ) ,Welbeck ,Ronaldo (Tevez ,61)

I think it has the 'kudos' because if we were to get to Wembley, it would be the biggest gate receipts all season and we'd have 3 telly payments from the Area Final and the Final.

.They write about the Premiership because thats what the majority want to read and it sells papers.Leicester City v Lincoln headlining the back page won't sell many papers. The fact is like it or not most of Joe Public are only interested/bothered in the Premiership.Supply and demand
I do find it slightly odd that some of the same people who were dissing Forest about the shame of being in the JPT are now 'bigging; it up for us,guess its a sniff of Wembley that makes it now the 4th most important Competition

My sentiments exactly.

I really don't want to be unkind but I am amazed to read comments from some people on this forum (whom I have always felt were both intelligent and knowledgeable even if I disagreed with them) going on about this ridiculously superfluous kick around as if it had any relevance at all.

If it has any significance, it's the embarrassment of us being in it.
To misquote from the parlance of the U.S. Presidential election contest: this competition is a pig's head - whether it culminates in a Wembley or local rec based final. It's bad enough having league fixtures against nonentities without duplicating the problem with meaningless mid week fixtures against them (and worse).

I think someone has lost touch with the reality that they are supporting a third tier team who has obligations to play in certain competitions. Even worse when they don't want their team to win the games they play.

Commonly known as the Sing-when-you're-winning Syndrome.
