LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDERED PEOPLE INVITED TO JOIN NEW COMMUNITY FORUM



Leicester Lesbian Gay and Bisexual Centre is urging lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered (LGBT) people to make their voices heard on important local issues. The Centre has set up a Community Forum to enable LGBT people who live or work in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland to give their opinions on topics which affect them.



Siân Lambert, Policy and Development Officer at the LGB Centre, said: “Over the past few years there has been an increasing recognition that discriminating against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people is wrong and there are now laws against such discrimination.”



“The Centre already works with many local organisations including statutory bodies such as local councils, the police and the NHS, voluntary organisations and local businesses to increase their understanding of the issues faced by LGBT people. The Community Forum will work with Centre staff to encourage organisations to make positive changes which promote equality for LGBT people.”



The initial meeting to discuss the setting up of the Forum and ways in which the local community could ensure its voice is being heard was held at Leicester LGB Centre on Thursday 25th October. It was attended by around twenty people from across the area who agreed to work together to raise the profile of LGBT issues locally and to work with local organisations to improve the services they provide.



Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland LGBT Community Forum welcome new members from every walk of life. If you live or work in Leicester city, Leicestershire or Rutland and would like to get involved we’d love to hear from you!
