El Dude Brother.
I'm seriously considering getting my eyes corrected by either LASIK or LASEK surgery. Has anyone had this done? If so what were your experiences and where did you have it done?

It sounds like you may can starbursts so I guess it's up to you whether you think the risk is worth it. Personally I'd be a happy man if I had opal fruits and slightly iffy eye sight, but starbursts? Forget it!

On of my friends had it done a number of years back, but she has noticed deterioration in her eyesight recently.

Surgery won't stop age related changes in eyesight, I know people who have been refused surgery because their eyesight is not stable enough. That said LeeH had it done quite a few years ago and she hasn't complained about her sight since.

That article mentions stats from 2001 when the procedure was far less stable. I'm led to believe complications of that nature are far less common with the latest technology.

They make that pretty clear.

i toyed with the idea...until i realised you had to stay awake during it and smell your own eyes burning

This is probably a pretty worthless contribution, but a good friend of mine had this procedure done on both eyes in one session at Bluewater (I'm sure it was at Bluewater) about 4 years ago. She absolutely swears by it and goes on about it very often. She had awful eyesight and now has near 20/20 vision.

Wasn't aware there were different procedures and don't know what LASIK/LASEK are or what the differences are between them - but as I say, what she had done, she absolutely swears by.

LASEK doesnt require them to cut a flap in your cornea. LASIK does.

I see they are quoting figures now of 99.88% of people achieving a driving standard correction and 94% achieving 20:20 vision or better. Pretty impressive.

My OH looked into having it done but it would cost a stupid amount of money!!!

Just checked on Optimax site with his prescription and it would cost at least £2500 - and he would only be able to have the ICL

Think eyes are dodgy things to work on especially if something goes wrong
