How was the food?

Fanceh going before Christmas to treat my lucky Mrs
Really nice, loads to choose from and apparently the specials are always great. Good dessert menu too.

loads to choose from is usually a bad sign. It means storage and cooking logistics which bring freshness into question. I much prefer a restaurant with a small choice which is changed every week. Rare but well worth looking for.

No issues there with the freshness of the food. The specials list is changed constantly - well worth booking a couple of weeks in advance for a table (and even then it can be a struggle). Looking forward to going there next Saturday.

Went to Ascoughs on Wednesday evening. The food is still good and the place was full so they must be doing something right .

Anyone been to The Case recently?

The White Peacock is better. I did the nine course taster menu at the weekend and it was the best meal I've ever eaten.

I looked at that and did fancy the tasting menu, unfortunately the other half is a veggie and I believe you have to have the same menu.

Give them a call, I'd expect them to sort something out.

Alternatively, Maiyango is better than the Case for veggies.

I've just looked at Maiyango's vegetarian taster menu. They clearly haven't got a clue about which ingredients are suitable for vegetarians, so I wouldn't go there.
The menu includes "parmesan and truffle spelt risotto". Parmesan is never suitable for vegetarians, it's always made using calf rennet.

Got a menu through from The Case and the veggie option sounds appealing to her. The options for me all sound appealing so it might be a goer.

Have you been ?

Sorry, yes we did.

I thought it was decent to be honest. Braised ham hock started being the only disappointment in my eyes. Mains were a good portion size as I was slightly dubious about this and the quality was very good.

Desert was absolutely fantastic, a real highlight.

As was the Japanese whisky :)

3 courses each, a bottle of Wine (good Viognier) and a Japanese whisky came to £84

Can anyone tell me a restaurant which does true Vegan food (not oh I thought it was vegan) in Leicester/Leicestershire. Meeting up with my sister in Leicester for lunch tomorrow - she's the vegan I'd have liked a nice Lamb shank.
