Watched (most of) the game again last night on SkyPlus, Wellens' second card was perhaps a bit harsh but Prem refs tend to let less go that CCC refs. Berner was very lucky (by his own admission) to stay on the pitch. Apart from the obvious handball from the free kick, I hate to say it but the ref got the rest just about right.

The commentary team were annoying because it was a poor Newcastle, or a dissapointing Newcastle. Fryatt's fantastic run was second fiddle to Patrick Van Aanholt's shot at the other end, but I guess that's always going to be the case when you are playing against the likes of Newcastle who some broadcasters still see as a Champions League side.

Overall, I think we were the better side and it just shows what we can do when we put our minds to it, although it's noticable that we play well against sides that want to play football rather than scrappy sides that just pack the midfield.

You thought he was just about right to not book the Newcastle bloke for the cynical foul on Gallagher on the edge of the box which led to that free-kick?

You thought he was just about right to ignore the waist-high tackle which took out Waghorn just before Berner got booked?

It wasn't so much what the ref gave that was the problem - it was his inconsistency. And that most of his inconsistency favoured one side.

its funny how different you see things from being there to seeing it on tv, i thought the ref did pretty well (except for his reluctance to book their players or give us a pen:)), wellens had to go his challenge that led to his 1st booking was lucky he couldve got a straight red and he had made 2 or 3 bad tackles previously, his 2nd yellow may have been harsh but how frigging stupid of him to even think of raising his arms upto their players shoulder when he had already been booked - no sympathy he had to go imo as should berner. the fans started getting behind the team when there were tackles flying ina nd us generally getting stuck in. how crap were newcastle though???? and theyre meant to be the best side in this league???? their fans might as well have stayed at home for the (lack of) noise they made!!!

so it seems we can make a team effort but only in certain games lets see how we do in the next few games...

Mr Marriner's next TV apperance, Leeds United v Tottenham Hotspur replay

From the TV pictures it looked like Gallagher was trying to win a free kick by running running into the defender,

Clearly not how the ref saw it or he wouldn't have given a free-kick.

I just watched the game and I have to say that it was pretty decent performance. :) Wellens is a plonker and deserved to be sent off and that was the turning point. Well done to the other players and well done to Nige for having a go until we took off Fryatt.

Bodes well for the next game methinks. :icon_bigg

And just where do you think you have been?

Thai-Malaysian border with a family that farms rubber. :icon_wink

I was going to edit that but there were just too many opportunities to choose from
