Spot on

Nugent hasn't got a chance playing there on his own - it was more of a 4-5-1 than a 4-3-3. The rest of the team were miles away from him - and playing Abe, Danns, Wellens and Fernandes together is never going to provide the right kind of support from midfield.

I was disappointed that we set up that way against Cov, but horrified that we set up that way today. Complete wank

Agreed.

Reading were very well organised and, like last year, we lacked any creativity. Time and time again players opted to pass backwards or sideways when approaching the halfway line, and I pointed out after about 10minutes that we never had anyone in behind their midfield - this didn't change throughout.

I was listening to the Reading commentators. They said we switched to 4-4-2 for the second half when King came on.

It looked that way before to me, it ment we were flat and narrow when we got to the final third. I thought we played well though, not many seem to agree. If Nugent's had gone in off the post we'd be having a different conversation.

To me and those around us, it looked like 442, guess we were wrong.

Not from the start it wasn't - schlupp was left fannying about on the left hand side for well over half an hour, if not longer

Having pushed him into the centre for the second half, with some effect, Sven then inexplicably replaces him with the truly hopeless Waghorn

If Nugent's had gone in off the post we'd be having a different conversation.

Agreed, but first half we were woeful, or at best completely 'blunt'. And apart from the first 15mins of the 2nd half, I don't think that we created a chance.

In contrast, our defence looked disorganised and Reading looked fairly close to being played through on several occasions.

[optimism] I recall a tonking from Ipswich early doors in our last automatic promotion year.

I can't remember us getting tonked by Ipswich in our last automatic promotion year. Was it a cup game?

I fear that we wont handle the pressure, and there is pressure from every direction. Pressure on the manager having spent millions of the owners money. Pressure from the media because the club has spent. Pressure from the bookies who placed us as favourites, even though there is no evidence (until proven) that we have a top side. Pressure heaped on us by opposing teams and fans, and of course the huge pressure by our own fans, who have been carried along on a tidal wave of propaganda from various factions.
Certain media pundits have already been slated on here, for daring to question and suggest that we might not do as well as many of us blinkeredly think. Maybe people outside our bubble are more realistic of our chances.
Of course one pi$$ poor performance and result will not define the season, but i dont see how we are going to trouble the better teams in the division with a side that does not know each other yet.

That wasn't our last automatic promotion year.

It was from this division. :018:

That said, I remember being awful at Stockport in the second game of the League One season as well as at home against Millwall and look how that turned out. Optimism again.

Anybody know why the crappy X-Factor guy with the big hair was getting booed so much? Has he upset us in a previous life?

Oh, and it wasn't all bad today for some TBers. I caught one sitting under the canopy tent in the Fan Village and he was still there enjoying himself an hour later. Not bad for someone who would have you believe he shuns this sort of thing :icon_bigg

Maybe because they have no wish to see some complete nomark twat singing horribly out of tune and murdering a couple of songs completely

I know, but the crowd are usually more forgiving.

I'd pretty much agree with all of that.
