Not easy for Mills, his first home game and playing against his former team who he has left acrimoniously.

So what was his excuse in the other two games?

We were the better side until they scored

First half included? I disagree - I thought that although we passed it around a lot, most of our passes were sideways and 10yards inside our half. They looked both more direct and likely to score.

Anybody know why the crappy X-Factor guy with the big hair was getting booed so much? Has he upset us in a previous life?

Those members of the forum who were not at the match may be puzzled by this. They do not know just how poor his act was - except there literally was no act.

We had seen the Thai dancers who are not my scene but had obviously worked hard at their performance and the dresses were clearly chosen with care and must have pleased those who like that kind of thing.
We then had three singers who were very talented had rehearsed an act and showed real professionalism. They included dancers and worked a routine with the dancers . They were excellent. Again like the Thai dancers they had respected the fact that they were performing in front of over 20,000 people.

Then he came on. Clearly he did not think it worth dressing for the occasion and sporting a silly haircut so I thought he was a comdedian. He was not a mediocre singer; he was a bad singer. To make it worse the microphone had him singing too loudly; if you cannot sing well sing quietly. Unlike the two previous performers he had not bothered with an act - no sign of reheasal, no sign of thought. He sang as a poor performer at a karaoke might.

The crowd were forced to listen to his "performance"I hope the message from the boos to Susan Whelan is to keep him off the pitch and the message to the singer is that a lot of people disliked his perfiormance.

My thoughts have been largely covered, so just echoing what others have said.

Mills was absolutely abysmal, felt sorry for Bamba as he pretty much had to defend for 2 players today and Mills really, really didn't look like captain material to me today. He completely lacked communication with his team mates. Fernandes looked a far better organiser of the team.

And re: formation. I don't know what game the radio commentators were watching. We didn't change to 4-4-2 at HT, we changed to a 4-4-2 after about 20 minutes, certainly well inside the first half.

Oh, and I ****ing hate playing Reading. They're really starting to become a bit of a bogey side for us.

Oh, and it's a depressing sign that Waghorn is anywhere near our squad of 16. He's simply not good enough.

I actually don't think we were that bad, probably the better team but they took their chances. If Nugent's chance that hit the post had gone in while we were well on top we could have been looking at a resounding victory. It was that sort of game. Regardless we were making far too many individual errors, Yuki Abe was the main culprit and was rightly subbed at half time, I also hope he gets dropped for the next game as I have always felt he is a bit over rated amongst our fans. Mills also had a bad game today but other than that I thought we played okay. Schmeichel, Bamba and Fernandes all looked great, and everyone else other than Mills and Abe I felt played okay but it was just one of those odd games. We did look a bit toothless upfront even during the spells where we were well on top, again still crying out for an out and out goalscorer.

I special word for Schlupp who I thought did well, looked dangerous when taking people on but perhaps lacks that 'final product' in the final pass or shot at the moment against this sort of opposition.

Schmeichel - 6 - Abandoned by his defence for both goals, did as well as he could.
Pantsil - 3 - Appalling distribution, surrendered possession far too often.
Mills - 3 - For the third game running, absolute and utter shit. Needs to improve asap or he's a costly error.
Bamba - 6 - Casual, risky, gets away with it. Every ****ing time. Classy.
Konchesky - 4 - Impressive going forward, poor in defence. Left for dead by Manset late on, which summed his game up.
Wellens - 4 - Totally ineffective, misplaced too many passes.
Abe - 3 - Off the pace.
Fernandes - 5 - Did nothing specifically wrong but had little effect on the game.
Danns - 4 - Wasn't allowed any room to work. Easily kept quiet.
Nugent - 5 - Rusty, should have scored. Wasted out wide late on.
Schlupp - 4 - Played some good balls, but the occasion clearly got the better of him.

Subs:
King - 5 - Sharper than last week, scared Federici into action early in the second half.
Waghorn - 2 - Usual. Headless chicken act, took some crap corners, same old rubbish.
Gallagher - Is there any point bringing him on so late?

couldn't have put it better myself..

only Schmecihel and Bamba should pick up their wages this week.

Pantsil had a woewfull debut... Mills looked a nervous wreck ..Sven shouldnt have started with Schlupp (clearly too big a step at the moment)... King and Gallagher should have started.

no penetration or threat really... don't really look like scoring... oh dear !

I'm not one to start telling the manager how to do his job but I think Mills needs to be shown that his pricetag does not mean he's undroppable, because he's started like a ****ing train wreck. I'd like to see St. Ledger in for him on Wednesday night.

Sums it up for me, well put.

You are not the only one to criticize Mills for all three games which surprises me. I did not see him against Rotherham but against Coventry I thought he was excellent.

I haven't criticised him for all three games David.

To stop talking negatively for a second. Schmeichel is definitely the player I've been most impressed with so far, in both pre-season and at the start of the season.

With about 5 or 6 minutes to go of the first half there was a break in play for an injury or something and Schmeichel went round his entire defence and almost the entire team in fact and started talking to them and pointing out what I assume were "helpful hints" about positioning etc. We noticeably improved in those final 5 mins or so, after he did that. Great to see someone organising the side like that.

If Sven and his players did need any reminder that this is a very competitive division then the result will help. I've always thought that there are around 10 sides with reasonable aspirations of getting promotion and we are most certainly in that mix.

I would assume that Sven is too experienced to believe our own propaganda about how wonderfully strong we are in most positions. I guess that the only diffference tonight is that a lot of fans will have had a reality check.

Completely agree.

Also, one thing that few have mentioned is how shocking the marking was for their first. Abysmal in every sense.

Apologies. You are right. BM criticized him over three games but he is the only one.

Americans usually use "criticize". American-English is sometimes more traditionally English than that used by the English themselves. Most English people use "criticise".

For the British the use of "criticize" is unfashionable, archaic and obsolete. For some reason I feel more comfortable with "criticize".

And no one can critizise you for that, but some choose to criticise you for not doing that
