We cannot send out a team at home against a side who will play on the break with only one or two attack minded players. It is simply not going to be enough to score the goals we need. The decision is between three or four attack focused players, not any fewer.

We started out as though we were scared of them, playing a rigid 4-5-1. We were inviting them to outplay us, which they proceeded to do for the whole of the first half. Sven finally did something about this after half an hour and tried to get the diamond in midfield with two up front but Schlupp hadn't a clue what was expected of him.

Second half started much better because we had three attack minded players, Nugent, Schlupp and King. We had a spell of dominance and were unfortunate to go behind when we did. But again, if you go behind with few attacking options, it's virtually game over.

People have said plenty about the nightmare appearance from Mills but I want to single out Danns. I thought he was poor against Madrid, he just doesn't seem to fit with the other players and makes the team look wrong. Today, he was awful. If he was a kid, I'd cut him some slack but he's been around long enough to know better. How he is getting into the side ahead of King or Gallagher or Dyer is totally beyond me.

We desperately need a striker with speed and presence. I think that player is Maynard and we should do whatever it takes to get him in quickly. Quite apart from that, the team selected on Wednesday and the approach taken will show us all whether we're justified about being excited about this season.

The players will soon get a little pissed off with Baby Schmeichel's moans.

Anyone whose played 11-a-side on a constant basis in a competitive nature will know what I mean. No one likes a moaning keeper.

Bit embrassing the crowd applauding him. Even more so when he wastes time by booting the ball into the stands when we concede.

Also, one thing that few have mentioned is how shocking the marking was for their first. Abysmal in every sense.

Both Mills during the game, and Sven afterwards, pointed out that Reading had illegally taken out the scorers marker (Konchesky) to provide the space.

You really cannot compare Sunday league with professional

Yes I heard that. Sven referrered to it as 'clever'. I didn't think much at all to Reading, wasn't pretty at all to look at but evidant;y effective none the less. They set out to stop us playing and hit us on the break when possible, banging a lot of long high balls up field. Also a lot of petty time wasting.

Also on a separate note, it looked to me like we started out with a 442 diamond (with Dannd playing at the attacking tip of the diamond) but reverted to the usual 433/451 formation after 20-30 mins when it was clear things weren't going to plan. This worked a treat as we then looked a lot better towards the end of the first half and even better still at the beginning of the second. Until they scored, then things just went a bit flat.

You can judge player morale exactly the same. In fact the comparison goes beyond football, its like a bricky telling a chippie he's doing something wrong.

The reaction would be the same e.g. 'Why's he telling me to how to do my job, when he can't do it himself'

In fact the more I think, the more I consider it to be comparable. The notions are same, the tactics are same, the way the brains ticks when playing is the same.

i just think it was an all round off day...
Mills hasn't really looked THAT good in the two games i've seen...(Cov and Reading)..
Starting with Yuki, Gelson and Wellens didn't make a huge lot of sense to me...as we kind of had Danns on the wing/out wide...it was just a mess

I'm hoping for something more like this for Wednesday night:

...........Kasper
Peltier - Bamba - Mills - PK
............Gelson
.....King........Danns
...Gally....
...................Schlupp/Waghorn/New Striker
.....Nugent

We lost today because of the way we were set up. I didn't think Reading were particularly good and I'm sure a more positive set up would have seen us win the game. When Eriksson changed things around towards the end of the first half we improved, but we still didn't look that much of a danger going forward.

It's difficult to know which formation we should go out with. I don't think we have the wide forward players for a 4-3-3, and neither Pantsil or Konchesky impress me bombing forward from their full back positions. And a 4-4-2 looks difficult, again because of a dearth of creative wide men. Regardless of the way we set up our movement going forward was almost non-existent. I was frustrated by this very problem last season and based on today's game it hasn't been rectified.

A lot of our passing was loose to say the least, especially in the first half, and a couple of times I spotted players bickering off the ball. Perhaps that's part of the process of the players learning each other's games. Whatever the reason, we can't afford to go on that way for very long. On a more positive note, the first quarter of an hour or so after half-time was quite promising. I hope that short period will be more representative of our season than the rest of the match.

Player Ratings:

Schmeichel - 7 - He was fine. He made one good save from Jimmy Kebe in the second half and wasn't at fault for any of the goals. He was obviously very frustrated by the lack of organisation just in front of him and it was nice to see him expressing this. He perhaps went a little far in running around his half letting his colleagues know what he thought of them. He won't win many friends in the dressing room that way.

Panstil - 6 - I thought he was very good at the back, but lacked any real ability going forward. It seems clear that Eriksson wants his full backs to provide most of our wide attacking threat, and Pantsil didn't look very comfortable with that to me. He gave the ball away a few times when under little pressure, but was by no means the worst culprit.

Konchesky - 6 - He looks a good acquisition to me. In the main he passed the ball way and was always ready to go forward, even if he could improve that aspect of his game. On a couple of occasions I felt he crossed from a little deeper than he should have, but there was little for him to aim at in any case. He seemed to tire toward to end of the match and was beaten by his man a couple of times.

Mills - 4 - He was atrocious. Almost every time he found himself in space with the ball he looked to launch it forward rather than looking for the simple ball and retaining possession. His first touch was poor and he wasn't very convincing in the air. And his positioning was bad. A peformance like that from the captain can't do much for confidence throughout the rest of the team. He needs to improve significantly and quickly. Hopefully it was down to little more than nerves at facing his former club, although even that wouldn't be a terribly good excuse for today. I hope it isn't just because he lacks ability.

Bamba - 8 - I think he was superb. He sometimes frightens me when in possession, which is wrong, because he nearly always gets it right. He was defending for two today and he did an admirable job. I don't think it's any coincidence that Reading's second came while Bamba was occupying a more advanced position. Our best player today.

Wellens - 6 - I didn't notice Wellens doing an awful lot. What I did notice was that when Schmeichel was going about berating his team mates, Wellens was the only one who argued back. There was the customary shrug of the shoulders as if to say "nothing to do with me". This inability to take responsibility for anything seems to be quite the habit.

Abe - 5 - I just don't understand why he started the match at all. He's had a shitty week and we have the depth in the squad to cover for such eventualities. His passing was embarrassing to watch and Eriksson was quite correct in taking him off, even though he had more excuse than most for his incompetence.

Danns - 5 - Very disappointing. His passing was almost as bad as Abe's and he ran himself into trouble far too often. It looked to me as though he moved into a more advanced position after Eriksson changed the system. This brought about a slight improvement in his performance, but even here the most he could offer was a weak shot early in the second half.

Fernandes - 7.5 - I enjoyed watching him very much indeed. He was everywhere early on in the game, making strong tackles, interceptions, and being instrumental in our small spells of possession with some precise short passing. He tailed off a little as the game progressed, which is the only reason he scores less than Bamba.

Schlupp - 6 - There were brief glimpses of what me may become used to seeing from Schlupp. When he had the opportunity he was brave enough to run at Reading's defenders, even if he lacked the guile to leave them stranded. One the one occasion he did succeed he played an extremely sloppy pass. He will learn, although the best way to teach him perhaps isn't to throw him straight into first team action against one of the division's strongest sides. He didn't look ready for the step up.

Nugent - 6.5 - He mainly looked isolated, but when he did have the ball at his feet he impressed me. He had two very good chances. He was disadvantaged by a tight angle for his first, but I felt he should have gone across the keeper in the hope that Schlupp would pick up the scraps rather than attempt to place it into the far corner. He was very unlucky not to score with his chance early on in the second half and I;m sure with a bit more action he will be putting these chances away.

King - 6 - He looked good when he first came on and made Federici work with a powerful shot from distance soon after making an appearance. King's dynamism would have been useful from the start.

Gallagher - 6 - It seems silly to bring him on so late in a game we are chasing. He lacks the pace to stretch tired legs. Perhaps the best option he offers us at this stage of the game is his set piece ability, and yet Waghorn was the preferred taker.

Waghorn - 5 - He offers nothing. The youthful enthusiasm he provided in his first spell here is no more, and anyway, enthusiasm can only take a player so far. His set pieces were poor, he is static when we are moving forward, and his head rarely rises when he is in possession. He just isn't good enough/

I would argue that a professional is able to be more professional and take advice from someone who is seeing more of the game than them.

I booed because his singing was awaful. Absolutely ruined the Bonjovi song. Why did we have to listen to the threesome who sang some old Frank Sinatra songs?!

Did it make you feel better embarrassing the club like that? Did you also boo at the end?

In order to gain promotion we need to have a pacy winger and a tall, agile striker. Nugent is, technically, a very good player and, with a bit of luck, he would have two goals to his name from the two league games. Given all the supposed financial resources that we have at our disposal, wasn't it almost embarrassing to see Bamba playing the centre forward role towards the end of the game a la Steve Walsh from the 1990s? Surely, Sven should have signed someone to fit that key role by now?

Abe was poor today. Does he ever break into a sweat? When he has the ball, he plays a short pass and then just strolls along. I didn't see him making a bursting run into space so that his team mate can pass to him.

Wellens, I'm afraid is probably past his best. I'm not sure what he actually offers? Scores hardly any goals and isn't particularly creative. I think that he lives on the fact that he once used to play for Man Utd so therefore he must be good.

Danns was disappointing. I had hoped that he was one of the better midfielders in the Championship but I didn't see much evidence of that today.

Mills was absolutely shocking. Poor passing, poor positioning, poor everything. Could he be the most expensive flop since Akinbiyi? We looked jittery at the back in the first half even though we were playing very defensively!

I was impressed with Nugent. He was mainly ploughing a lone furrow, but he has the skill and technique to do well at this level, so long as he has others around him.

Waggy was woeful. Body language was negative. Can't take corners. Let's hope he leaves before the transfer window closes.

Gallagher offered very little. He's not one to put a shift in when things aren't going well. We need a pacy, skilful winger. He is neither.

King did ok when he came on, but, once again, the body language seemed to be negative.

Schmeichel and Bamba did well. Not too sure about Konchesky and Pantsil. I like Fernandes - has an engine and gets around the pitch.

Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. Sven has time before the transfer window to get people in and get others out.

Why would it embarrass the club? This guy is a creation of the X-Factor. He has no singing talent whatsoever. Just because Simon Cowell thinks (pound signs before him) that he can sing, it doesn't mean that we have to think the same.

He was no more embarrassing than the Birch. If someone is invited to the club and some ignorant idiots boo them then it reflects on the club. Then again, when said same idiots boo Ronaldo there really is no surprise.

Did you boo at the end?

No I didn't boo at the end. It was a very poor performance by a group of guys who are paid a significant some of money to perform. Just because they wear the blue shirt, does not mean that they should be immune to any criticism - don't you agree?

I do think they should be open to criticism, however, I don't believe booing your own team is ever appropriate or constructive

My most memorable booing of my own team was when we threw the ball back to the opposition after they kicked it out for what turned out to be a non-existent injury to one of their players. I forget who the opposition were but they had been time wasting and feigning injury all game.

I thought that my booing was quite justified at the time!

I am surprised at how generous you are to Pantsil who I thought was poor as was Danns. I thought both need to up their game if they are to stay in the team.
Konshesky did well and I thought deserved a 7.
Schlupp did not look ready for this standard.
I am reluctant to criticise Nugent since he got no support.

We were good at getting the ball but then gave it away again. This was partly because there was usually only one player up front and he was well marked.
On the other hand congratulations to Reading who looked a very good team. The Reading fans were chanting "What a waste of money" which was presumably aimed at Mills but it summed up Leicester's performance.

I thougt Pantsil played quite well! I thought he was better than Konchesky!

You are not the only one to criticize Mills for all three games which surprises me. I did not see him against Rotherham but against Coventry I thought he was excellent.
He wasn't. He was largely adequate at Coventry apart from the two colossal errors, one of which created Coventry's best chance. He was pish.

No. Pantsil was absolute toss.

**** I hope were not setup so negatively against the Trees next week, if ever there was a team there for the taking.
