I'll give you some doom & gloom.

Who here can really say we deserve a playoff place?

We lost to Cardiff, QPR & Norwich within 30 days. This is not our season.

The powers that be fuc*ed up with the appointment of Sousa and they made it worse by green lighting his pathetic signings.

Therefore lets be glad with a top ten finish and not a relegation battle. We move onto next season with high hopes.

If I remember rightly some numpty started a thread about coming 2nd and we lost 3-4 games following !

I would be happy with top ten.

(However if ( and thats a big IF) by some miracle we do make the playoffs then celebrate like theres no tomorrow!!!!! :050:)

Well we don't deserve to be in a play off place now, which is why we're not in one. But if we somehow scrape 6th then we will have deserved it.

I agree that we should be fairly happy with a top ten finish. In fact I would have settled for that at the beginning of the season. I remember thinking that we'd overachieved last season and probably wouldn't be on for a repeat anyway.

I am more optimistic about next season however. I think Sven can build a strong squad with financial backing and a full pre-season. Judging by some of our tired looking performances recently the summer break can't come quickly enough.

If we beat Reading & Forest then we deserve it. Heres hoping!

Ricardo is quite plainly a more accomplished keeper than Weale.

To say Weale has been faultless for two seasons is remarkably innacurate.

So many teams score from distance, his distribution has been poor from day one, and he drops some clangers (Derby last season?)

Like Brown Nose...I hope neither is playing next season...I could even make an argument for Logan at this stage.

I think that the piss poor pre season preparation that saw the likes of Hobbs and Waghorn as shadows of their former selves has also showed in recent weeks with other players. The likes of Wellens and King are totally knackered. They are playing on memory. Gallagher is also showing signs of heading the same way.

I'd rotate Wellens and King for the remaining games so that they don't play together and get plenty of breathers. I'd also play Dyer in the centre three midfielders for his energy for the last few games.

Dyer always starts the season well, then goes shit, then comes on strong towards the end. He's done this every year with us.

I do not know why Abe is suddenly out of the picture. He had a good run of excellent games, covering behind King and Wellens and allowing them to go forward. Always seemed to be running on a full 'tank' as well.

Didn't he play nearly a full season in Japan before joining us with no summer break (they play through the summer I believe) and so would be completely fecked?

Weale - why does he always get caught out by long shots?

It may be that Weale gets things wrong when he becomes aware of a shot.

There are two parallels - David James and Matty Fryatt. James has been a wonderful reactive goalkeeper saving shots he could not possibly have been aware of. However, he has made some terrible mistakes when he has had just that bit of time such as with crosses etc.

I think the same has been true of Matty Fryatt. I noticed that Matty was more likely to score if he just reacted. If he had time to realise there was a chance he was less likely to score.

Top class boxing gives a good example. There is no way a boxer has time to think there is a left jab coming I must block it. If a boxer becomes aware of a punch it is too late. I imagine the same must be true of a batsman facing a fast bowler.

Whatever the respective merits of Ricardo and Weale it is clear that by dropping Weale for Ricardo and then dropping Ricardo for Weale Sven is not very impressed with either. I will be surprised if either of them is our first choice goalkeeper next season.

Sven says he wants the "silly mistake" goals cutting out.
How many points have been thrown away this season due to bad goalkeeping?

I would expect a new keeper is pretty high on his shopping list for next season.

Goalie will definitely be high on Sven's priorities for the summer. I'm not sure if Weale or Ricardo will be here even as a number two (Number two is a pretty good description of them both, in every way).

Not sure who Sven will go after, but it's obvious that he didn't have that much faith in Weale to begin with and a keeper was an area he was keen to address in January anyway, and Ricardo was far from first choice signing. Shay Given, Tomas Kuscasck, David James and I'm sure quite a few others were all strongly linked, with Sven confirming a few offers anyway.

Hopefully Sven can get a good one in the summer.

TornadoShaunUK wrote - This is why I think we struggle against less talented teams because there is less space, we don't really have any attacking players who have the ability to run at people and create problems that way, we are nearly always trying to pass through the opponents.

A very good point. For a squad that is supposed to have a lot of pace, we never actually seem to play with any. Lat night was crying out for someone to run at their defence with the ball. They did it much better than us.

:018: Tomasz Kuszczak.

I think we have a very outside chance of the play-offs, but realistically this squad will need so much improvement should we be promoted.
In comparison to the bottom half of the Premier we are way off their standard. I am grateful for Sven for getting us into this safe position, and should he stay (which I doubt) he could possibly make better permanent signings.
I think we have a positive future with Sven and these owners.
