He just looked shit. He's supposed to be a set piece player but wasn't even willing to step up to that, absolute waste of a shirt

But he was bought in to help sell them!

Can't blame fitness for this - we sat too deep at the start of the second half and three or four of em played like wankers

Homer I cannot agree. I thought we ran out of steam in the second half. For me our fittest player was Kyle Naughton. This is going to be a real problem - we did not have a proper pre-season. Hull of course being a Pearson team were as fit as we were last season.

To be awkward I do not agree with others comments about the strikers. Howard and Waghorn have great qualities but they are not natural finishers - Fryatt is. When Fryatt is available I would play him alongside either Waghorn or Howard - IMO Waghorn.
I believe that a period of Waghorn and Fryatt working together will make Waghorn far more effective.

We missed Dyer, Without him with have no real pace.

For me Gallagher is a liability. He gives the ball away far too easily and he is (to put it kindly) not a natural tackler. Usually he does one or two clever things but today he really was poor.

Abe is just not up to Championship standard at the moment.

We won the first half easily, they won the second, simlpe as. Don't think they offfered that much tho which makes it all the more frustrating. Davies, Naughton class above. Lets see what Sven can do in midfield and up front in loan market. Waghorn was disappointing today but he needs time. Can't have been easy for him with so much going on in the background since he moved here.

I like him, but he is not right for our circumstances at the moment. He is what i would call a luxury player, someone who can please teh crowd and show a bit of flair when things are going well. If we were top 6 i would be ok with him but right now not what we need.

Sven needs to get rid of the players who will not get us into the higher reaches of the Championship, namely - Howard, Oakley,Nielsen, N'Guessan, Gallagher - and replace them with loanees from the Premiership

Forgetting that there is a limit on the number of loanees who can play each game, what happens if we get promoted? I appreciate the names you mention arn't the best players we have but they may be good to have around the squad and can help others

Can't really see someone like Howard banging in 15-20 goals this season that we will need from a centre forward if we are to look for promotion.

And how does one go about just getting rid of contracted players?

Well he beat Solano once in an one on one today. No pace, little skill, sometimes has a stroke of genius.

The team got very little support from the bench today. Sven is not a touchline shouter. He is more of a thinker and his intelligence and judgement will hopefully have a very good effect. I had assumed that Fazackerley would be a shouter but he did not. Powell and Stowell did that very well against Scunthorpe and it was missing today.

There is a need for the moment to moment reaction. One example against Scunthorpe was their winger going down the line with Vitor alongside and Powell shouting "Don't foul don't foul don't foul". Powell did none of that today presumably on Sven's instructions.

Pearson was doing his usual barking of instructions to the irritation of some of the crowd but to me that is what someone should be doing. Incidentally twice the crowd chanted for Pearson and he seemed to me to ignore them. Did anyone see Nigel acknowledge the crowd?

It was interesting that before the match Craig Shakespeare made a point of oing to the youngsters bench behind the dugout to say hello to them and they seemed pleased to see him.

More evidence today to suggest that Waghorn really needs a strike partner who can make runs into the box and take the pressure of him....most teams expect the ball to go to Howard and wait for the flick-on, by this time the covering defender and centre half have stopped 'Waggy' in his tracks..he always seems to be chasing shadows.

This was a concern last season and until we sign that target man with a bit of pace and power then nothing will change.

I don't think it has anything to do with his strike partners really, Waghorn was just poor today, as pointed out earlier, one thing that really frustrated me was his lack of awareness. If you looked at him when we were breaking he was almost always standing in an offside position, I can remember at least 3 occasions today where a midfielder could have easily played a good through ball on the counter over the top for Waghorn to chase, but couldn't because Waghorn was standing offside and so they had to hold the ball allowing the Hull defence to get back, which wasted a genuine opportunity.

Weale 7 - So glad he's back to be fair..

Naughton 8 - Excellent start..As the game wore on, he grew for me.
Hobbs 6 - Suspect. A new defensive partnership (again) so I will (again) go easy on him, but Mr Hobbs is way off the pace for me at times.
Davies 8 - Our best player. Superb.
Berner 6 - Gave the ball away too easily. Defending good though.

Gallagher 6 - He ain't that bad, but he is also not Lloyd Dyer who I really think we missed today.
Wellens 8 - Excellent.
King 8 - Excellent.
Oakley 6 - Not sure really. We need someone on the right flank who can offer more & I don't think Oakley is a match for Wellens or King in the centre of the pitch.

Waghorn 5 - Poor. Hold up play was poor, running was poor, he was marked out of the game.
Howard 6 - Not much more he could do, looked like Thailand too it's toll there a tad, to me anyways.

s.
Moussa 7 - I like him a lot. Wants to run with the ball and looks a good player.
Abe 5 - It will take time. I hope. Or we have signed a dud.

Sven 7 - Mainly for his programme editorial.
Nigel Pearson 7 - Really impressed by Hull City. For the first minutes of the second half, they were very good...

You shouldn't have stroked his balls then.

And for the majority of the first half they were piss poor and there for the taking. This is the most infuriating thing about us - we just don't know how to finish teams off when they are on the back foot.

Agree with most of that Alex, especially the back four - Davies was brilliant, as was Naughton, but I thought both Berner (bad passing) and Hobbs (lacks pace) were dodgy.

Hull were a dirty lot of time-wasting b*astards. I hope Pearson was suitably embarrassed.

Can't believe some of the shite i'm reading in here.

"The team got very little support from the bench today"
What did Pearson achieve today that SGE approach didn't. He was calm during a world cup, what do you expect here for goodness sake.

"Berner (bad passing)"
He was playing left wing on his own for most of the game. He was on his own and was ****ed after running 70/80 yards all alone.

"Fitness wasn't an issue"
Are we watching the same city that seemed to die after 35minutes?

"Gallagher really frustrates me"
Ran the game for 25/30 minutes, but looked ****ed after that when the teams fitness slowed

"I just felt had we played the energetic attacking football Sousa was trying to impose then we'd have won."
The football where we conceded a shit load of goals each game, and looked pretty awful 95% of the time. I honestly cannot believe that post.

"Really impressed by Hull City"
We cruised about 60% of the game, looked troubled for about 15% and were even for about 25%. How someone can be impressed with Hull and not how we played god only knows.

I walked out from that game full of confidence. If we play like that but can A) gain fitness and B) get a midfielder with the balls to shoot and a striker with the ability to create chances, we're on our way...... Not forgetting the two signings so far who were head and shoulders above everyone else.
